Why do Leftists continually try to prop up Denmark as some utopia? It's far from it. The people there lead EXTREMELY boring lives because they are broke as broke can be. All they have is food and healthcare. What is their purpose of being alive? To pay the state to pay for others that's it. I wouldn't call them successful for that. I'll take what we have here a million times over then just existing in Denmark.
The Danes didn’t ask the United States to be stupid and carry their defense water for them. They don’t care because they don’t look for dumb wars to get into and they’re quite happy to mind their own business and stay outta other nation’s internal affairs.
Your country on the other hand...
You’ve never been to Europe, let alone Denmark so you have no idea of life there.
Again, their country is run better and is in far better shape than yours is. You should concentrate on fixing that instead of tearing down the Danish who have avoided trillion dollar wars and trillion dollar debts.
Yes, for damn sureDenmark is in far better shape than your country is in.
That Denmark has problems is well...DUH! You’ve got problems and so do I. So what?
Well that is the point genius. Both countries have their pros and cons and are more similar than not. They are both Western Capitalist Democracies, an obvious fact that seems to elude you and others.
Better shape? Meh. That is your opinion.
No better, no worse, adjusted for unique characteristics, of which there are many.

Well... Denmark has lost more soldiers per capita in Afghanistan than the US. (The dumbass PM managed to get the country into the Iraq war as well - the less said about that, the better.) And the Danish Air Force flew 500+ sorties against ISIL.
That's to say nothing of the UN operations that Denmark traditionally has been supporting militarily.
For a country with a population that's 60% of LA county, I'm not sure that post-Cold-War Denmark is falling behind.
Probably because we're constantly being told that if we just adopt the policies that work in a country of <6 million people with numerous other major differences, that we too can be awesome like they are.
So, I hear your point but that tearing down thing is a two way street and generates reactive threads like the one we're seeing here.
That's fair... it is reactive, hopefully with a little food for thought.
Well, Denmark fell short on one important factor: The girl I fell for didn't live there. (Also, those winters. Two criticisms of Denmark that I can agree with, wholeheartedly: The language is really goddamn ugly and the winters are bleak beyond words. )
Extremely boring lives, as Dbones claim? I'd gladly bet that the average Dane is considerably better traveled than the average US citizen, for instance. 5 weeks of paid vacation helps.
That being said, I'm on my third country, and that has always been a Danish thing: We're all over the damn world, always have been. Denmark is a small place, very well run in most respects, but sometimes there's something to be said for trying one's mettle in different environments.
And I for one agree that you can't lift Danish policies wholesale, plonk them down in a place like the US and expect them to work. There's a mental framework that makes a country tick, and you can't export that.

Exactly. Different strokes for different folks...
Liberals often pretend that Denmark, and countries like Denmark are superior to US in practically every way, and that we should try and emulate them. To that I often laugh and point out the downsides to living in these socalled socialist utopias...
Ok, you get nice healthcare (but even that comes with caveats) and public transportation in Denmark. And now, here's the price you pay for it:
The average cost of a car is $25,000 higher, utilities are higher, housing costs are significantly higher, clothing is higher, restaurants are higher, practically everything is more expensive in Denmark... and yet the average income is roughly the same as in the US.

Quite true. Hey, I have been there, liked it, and think it a smashing success. I just do not think it Utopia. No place is.
I hate these comparisons. The US has over 300 million people spread across 4 million square miles. Denmark has the population of metro-Philadelphia with an almost cultural/ethnic homogeneous people.

In the US, we have inequality of place. The liberal, big coastal cities that produce are full of educated, well paid people where as the middle of the country is increasingly whiter, poorer, and less educated. Back to the coastal cities, there is a big problem there too. The inequality is more pronounced with large numbers of poor, homeless, mostly people of color that are unable to compete. I live on the coast and the daily visual reminders of the inequality are quite disgusting. I would much rather model after Denmark or another social democracy. We'd be better off. The right wingers droning on here about Mexicans or whatever is on repeat in their heads, may be able to reduce this type of distraction spoon fed to them. Education and better equality will solve many of your woes right wingers...
Why isn't California educating their minorities? They used to have the best schools in the nation (when Republicans ran Cali) and now they have the worst schools in the nation (thanks Dims).
At least we agree that proper education is most crucial.
If we tried to emulate the Denmark model, I think it would be a colossal failure...why doesn't California show us how it's done....maybe you can show me that 60% tax rates for the middle class is idealic....what is stopping you?....create Denmark on the West Coast now
