Even if New York agreed to ZERO INCOME TAXATION on Amazon FOREVER, the payroll taxes on the 25,000-40,000 jobs, the taxes on all the new businesses, the ad valorem increase in property taxation on all of Queens and parts of the other boroughs, the sales tax on all the new purchasing, the tolls and fares on all the new people using public transportation, it goes on and on and would have been breathtaking. There is no stating how cataclysmic this failure is, and there is no window dressing it. It's too big. It's too bad. And it's going to take people down. And I'm GLAD.
Looks like ocasio brainless cortex blew that one pretty quick. Since she was one of the biggest opponents of the deal. All those jobs and tax dollars gone...
Very few of those jobs met the cost of living in the NYC area, so it was no big loss, considering all the freebies Amazon demanded to move there.
What's the good of only adding more on the tax burden minimum wage earners already have to carry?
That's why Amazon dropped it. The residents didn't want Amazon there from the beginning.
Amazon would be far better off looking for a smaller city, one that can grow, and plan to stage it's move to accommodate for the local impact it will bring to any city. A single second headquarters might be impossible to create now, as Amazon is so huge.
It might be better for the company to plan 2 or more satellite headquarters to spread that impact out in a more reasonable level.
Gentrification is GOOD. Better people are GOOD. A nicer, cleaner, more sophisticated city is GOOD. Slums and poverty are BAD. Drug users and homelessness are BAD.
And companies SHOULD NOT be "giving back" to anyone but the shareholders. They are not charity agencies.
Gentrification didn't stop the homeless problem in SF and Seattle. I'd rather deal with pig s*** down the road than people s*** outside my door.

......I do know a few people who bought in LIC hoping to profit from the situation. I'm going to be able to laugh at them now, and that is the only upside to this.
Why? What did they do wrong?
How about the indy shop owners, cafe and restaurant owners. You laughing at them too?
It will be a big win for the new community -- and they won't be turning it away....wherever it is.
Maybe Newark will come back into the mix. Not today, they said no HQ2 talk for now. But it might be fun if they plopped it down in Newark and stole some employees from the Biggest Loser.
That’s a problem in NY for sure. Why would they even consider one of the most union strong areas in the country to begin with?
They can come up with the billions he is demanding. Ames Iowa can not. (just picked a city out of the blue)
