I heard East Coast people have hard time adjusting to West Coast life, and vise versa. Why move for work when it (was) possible to move the employer in?

That being said, I wouldn't want Amazon anywhere near me. The population spike will cause housing, traffic, pollution, homeless, disease and trash, taxes, resources being used, to go through the roof. Just look how "good" California has it.
LOL, what an odd way of agreeing with me.

It’s a shame and I agree it will be a big blow to the morale of the business community in the area .

If I had a small business in the area I’d be thinking , if they could push out amazon who is next ?
Just not the type of environment you want when you are in business .
What is the proper level of government socialists programs do you see as acceptable?

Are you saying capitalism has failed and a business can not exist without these programs?

Expect a real estate crash in NYC.

I wish I could agree with you but, in much the same way as it is impossibible for time to move backwards, it seems equally impossible that NYC real estate prices could ever go down, I've been living here one way or another since 1986... haven't heard of it happening once yet.

Yep, she could eat corn-on-the-cob through a picket fence.

More importantly, this is one of the most hauntingly accurate and, disturbingly poetic posts ever written. It evokes the imagery of Alfred's (Michael Caine) line from Batman; the Dark Knight (with Heath Ledger),

"Some people just want to watch world burn."

As a long time democrat, this is why I could not vote for the democrats in the last election.
Folks, the dems are a disaster. Cortez is a disaster.
The Green New Deal is a disaster. Just look at Gavin Newsom cancelling high speed rail, a disaster created by him and his fellow democrats. He should give back that $3.5 billion back to the federal government that the state borrowed to build that high speed rail disaster they created.

Amazon would have provided 25,000 jobs, not just jobs but
high paying jobs that Bernie always pushed for in his campaign. Amazon said they'll be salaried
at an average of $150,000. It's not just Amazon, just think of the economic activity for the small businesses around the area that would feed and serve all the employees. The economic impact is huge.
That’s bolstered by the company’s insistence that it chose the regions for the strong tech talent pipelines that surround: It can poach students from Cornell University’s tech satellite campus on Roosevelt Island, adjacent to Long Island City.

What kills me about this are the idiots like AOC and Warren acting like NY was giving Amazon $3BN in cash and that money could be spent elsewhere. No. So much no. They were granting them waivers on future taxes as an incentive to locate there. Why do that? Why have other cities and states done the same to intice various businesses? Because the net monies received far exceed the incentive amounts.

Now they get nothing, not that $3BN (for the few on here that wrongly think it’s sitting there ready to use) and not the money Amazon would have brought via 25,000 worker taxes, added ancillary businesses, etc. Really, the proper way to look at this is NY just gave up over $20BN thanks to these idiots.

AOC just cost New York over $20 billion. Wow, talk about an expensive mistake by the voters.

Anyone can adjust to life anywhere if they really want to.

I think Amazon would have brought more benefits than disadvantages to the area.
