Jimah Cawtah. The absolute worst in my memory was Lyndon Baines Johnson.

I think Ford deserves mention for doing what he thought best for the country at the expense of his political career.

LBJ was an interesting guy. I saw him on someone's list and was all and , but we really don't know that much about these people, except for where they place their effort and where they spent their political capitol. On those counts, LBJ was pretty OK.

The man couldn't say the word negro without making is sound like the slur, but he pushed the '64 Civil Rights Act through I think in part out of a sense of duty to the mandate he thought had been passed to him from JFK. Complicated man.

Carter.

Too nice for the job actually. His personality was a major reason his presidency was awful. The chief exec job doesn't go well for really nice people, in any industry.

I'd rank Carter among the nicest Presidents in our entire history actually.

Followed by Barack Obama. Regardless of what you think of his politics, he is a good and moral man.

Agreed.

Dubya was a pretty good guy too even though he plunged the country into an utter mess.

I have to add to the Jimmy Carter by a mile consensus. I think Ford also should get more credit than generally given. I imagine not being an elected President or VP and having a shorter term probably drops him from memory a good bit. I've read that Ford and Carter ended up being better friends with one another than they were with the other past Presidents post Presidency. The had very different post-Presidencies but I could see where they shared some common characteristics.

I think of HW as a more willful operator in public service than W (and anyone short of LBJ) was but also as more genuine/compassionate outside of politics. So that's an odd double edged sword. I also think Bush 1 had a very genuine love of country.

I do not feel like I relate to Obama as much but give him credit in terms of family/general composure.

And as a person I really think of Reagan in terms of having such a tight marriage that I do not think about activities/actions beyond that. That made his decline particularly cruel.

Bush 2 and Clinton have both the good and bad traits associated with addicts in my eye- they can charm a room but they can also be cutting. They've also inflicted their fair share of grief upon family but seem to have made amends.
