Even Coulter called him an idiot - give a fool enough rope and he'll hang himself. He couldn't help bragging that "he didn't need to do this" ...as in declaring a national emergency - he just wanted to expedite his whims rather than deal with Congress. And it's a FAKE whim that was only concocted by his election staff because he's too stupid to remember the planks of his own platform. Idiot indeed!
And he's not done a single FOOT of wall - and everyone with half a brain knows that - this lying liar will lie until he's in his grave.
You said you lived in the "area." But you're not on the border are you? Not one of the Texas sheriffs from the 13 border counties (there are 2 others that barely touch it) signed the letter sent to Congress last March 2018 "supporting a wall."
It may be fine with you that your southern neighbors have their property seized by the Federal government.
They, however, beg to differ. The Secure Fence Act of 2006, as amended mandates that Homeland Security consult local officials, property owners, and Indian trips in fence placement.
THIS ^^^ is what the bipartisan committee did when they brought in those who live on and police the border.
Trump, of course, wants to throw all that out.
Agreed, EveryLady. It's so interesting that the "Pubs who preach how they want to shrink government seem to think everyone should give up their land for a wall. First, do they really believe everyone with land along the border are in favor of the wall? And even if they are, are they all willing to give up their land for it? Even under the guise of MAGA? Maybe Trump will pay each of them out of his own pocket since he can't get Mexico to pay.
Congress has the power to overturn a national emergency but can’t directly block the president from declaring it in the first place. The National Emergencies Act of 1976 established that Congress has the authority to terminate a national emergency. But the progress can be lengthy and requires approval from both the House and the Senate.
The judicial branch can also review whether there is just cause for a national emergency. Rep. Adam Smith, the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, said on ABC’s “This Week” that while President Trump has the authority, he would be “wide open to a court challenge, saying ‘where is the emergency?'”
The law does not specify what constitutes a national emergency. But the president is required to explain to Congress how he intends to use that power.
Trump said he was going to build a wall since 2016. He was president for two years and republicans controlled the entire United States gov't (presidency, Senate, House). For two years with republicans running everything, no wall, no shutdown.
But since dems won the house 3 months ago, Trump caused the longest gov't shutdown in American history and is now declaring a national emergency.
Where was this emergency 3 months ago? A year ago?
I've also don't understand this. What was stopping this wall legislation from going through during the last congress when Republicans controlled both sides? Makes you wonder.
I guess time will tell. There are well over 30 national emergency's still in effect. Donald isnt an idiot, and I guarantee this move was well thought out.. Only Libs dont see a rope-a-dope
No this move was not well thought out. He even said he didn't have to do it. Doesn't sound like an emergency to me. And hopefully the lawsuits will present actual facts. Trump doesn't have any facts to back up what he has said. He just bloviates and spews lies as naturally as breathing.

In all honesty I don’t think Trump thought he would lose control of the house, he thought for sure that he had more time then he really did.

Possibly. And I still don't really get the gist of why Democrats think better border security with Mexico is a bad idea in the first place. (I can speculate but...) But I mean how are they really standing there with a straight face trying to sell this to the country as some big fight they need to win against the President so that...the border can remain less secure? Why would anybody be for that? It's a perfect example of how ridiculous American politics has become.
