Perhaps most that move there, are, in fact. "Rednecks" themselves.

I take it you haven't heard of upstate NY.

If I took you to my former AO. You'd swear you were in Georgia or Tennessee.
Mountains.
Farms.
Fields.
Forests.
Lifted trucks.
Confederate flags in the bed of trucks.

You wouldn't know that you were in NY.

Know what I used to do for fun in NY as a teenager and into my 20s?
Ride dirtbikes four wheelers and snowmobiles on trails that went across multiple counties into VT MA CT.
Only to have busy bodies call cops on me and chase me.

Take trucks up firetrails/logging trails across streams to get up to secluded areas to throw a bon fire from a stack of pallets collected from various sources.
Blast music and party up in the woods.
Rip across a frozen lake either in a truck or on a snowmobile...
Hunt.
Fish.
Go shooting either on the big back yard I had as a teenager into my early 20s (parents had 1,500 undeveloped acres)
Build and race stock cars spring - fall on dirt oval tracks all over the state.
Lebanon valley, Malta, Accord, Fonda, etc.
Sneak fireworks in from new Hampshire or PA on the 4th of July.
Go hiking to many different waterfalls.
Built hot rods only to have state troopers pull me over and look for this that and the other to cite me for either with a fix it ticket or being in violation of something...

You name it. Literally most everything that was illegal or deemed an offense in NY that I liked, is perfectly legal here. And God forbid you tint your windows in NY... down here you can rock limo tint and not be bothered.

I never harmed anyone. God forbid I had fun. That's illegal. Pay your taxes. Abide by Cuomos decree. Don't complain. Where's the incentive to live in NY and be perpetually miserable or potentially a felon by decree?

Business in Florida still rather pay you in sunshine than real money. And rent is not cheap when compared to salaries offered on jobs.

We also look cheap from the outside but soon after moving here you will realize those saving are only had in the Boonies or outskirts of cities. And you will have to commute a ways to enjoy the discounted housing prices, jobs are difficult to find outside the large cities. This also makes you very susceptible to gas price changes as driving 30-40 miles each way daily for work is common in Florida. You want to live near the beach, Tampa, Miami, Jacksonville, or Orlando then cost go up significantly.

If you not elderly then you will pay a very high property tax (local taxes are high d/t no state tax), and everything you want to do in the state has fees. You cant even get to a beach without a load of traffic and fees upon arriving. I like many things about Florida but I have lived in much cheaper places with higher paying jobs and opportunities for working folks (San Antonio Tx. is one).
What metro areas have you lived in as some of your claims truly are not applicable. It is nonsense to say that you cannot go to the beach without paying fees. Florida has 663 miles of beaches and pretty much anywhere you live in the state, with a few exceptions, you would only be an hour to an hour and a half from the nearest beach.

As well with property tax. It’s nonsense to paint with a broad brush and claim property tax is high unless someone is a senior. Mine is only $1,300 a year and that includes trash and recycling.

Yes New York City and its suburbs (metro area) are far different from upstate, and rural New York State. Unfortunately, the NYC Metro area has so much population in controls the ENTIRE STATE, and not for the better. It is happening in all states with major Metros around the nation.

Cuomo should look in the mirror as to why people are leaving in droves.

New Yorkers have been going to Florida for the same reason Quebecois, Minnesotans, Wisconsinites, and others from the Midwest, Northeast, and parts of Canada have been going to Florida: Warmer weather. Same reason many from Michigan retire in the Greater Phoenix,AZ region. Same reason South Texas attracts many retirees from northern areas. Warmer climate and lower cost of living.

I have many neighbors doing the half back. After living in Fla. they have found out it really is expensive and the weather, bugs suck.

They are looking at SC-Del for relief.

What I have found is living in NJ for the years my kids were in the public schools was great. Great teachers, education and facilities. Now that I have retired in NC, I see public schools (even public charters) being understaffed, under equipped and in need of a WPA style building boom.

Yes, The NE has some high taxes, (NYC has low real estate rates and a high payroll tax) you get what you pay for. In NC the flat tax put in is causing all other taxes to go up. Local politicians are finding it harder to pay for the needs of the schools and their communities (see Landis, NC). The state GOP has hurt NC and the people who voted them in.

------------

We’ve previously talked about the problems that New York State has in terms of hanging onto its population. People have been fleeing the state’s high taxes and oppressive liberal government for years now, dropping the state’s congressional representation by several members and putting the state through redistricting every census cycle. Rather than acknowledge what’s really the problem, however, Democratic leaders in the state government continually come up with new and interesting theories to blame these changes on. The latest is a real humdinger. Governor Andrew Cuomo came out this week and blamed the exodus on… Florida. (CBS Miami)

Not that weather has anything to do with it -- lolololololol.

Warmer weather states have seen huge migrations.

Yep, when you move to areas like that and sell a "meh" house in NY for 700k....and have 100k in pension etc. income....you buy a gorgeous place with acreage.

You then hang out with people that you like, join the country club etc. because you're pretty rich by local standards and don't really deal much with bible thumpers or red necks etc. unless they're fixing your car etc.

All labor in OK is cheap compared to NY. I doubt they have a higher % of illegals than NY.

Florida has been warmer for a long time though.

If this were business as usual you wouldn't think Cuomo would be complaining eh?

As I mentioned to another poster, if this is "nothing new" then why is the governor complaining?
