I realize your post is in reference to those who speak English as a second language. However, I trust you are not touting monolingualism as something to aspire to vs multilingualism. It's a virtue to comprehend and communicate in multiple languages.
Knowing a second language is not a sign of virtue. That's patently ridiculous.
And English speakers, beyond etymological interest, gain no real benefit from learning another language.
No, every Jewish person I know has had an ID on them when the situation presented itself, so that's not it. If you're going somewhere where you'll need to pay for something, you'll have your wallet on you. If you go anywhere, you'll have your wallet on you. If you're going to a bodega that gets ICE raids and plan on speaking in spanish in it, you'll have your ID on you.
Why would you have your wallet on you if you're going to walk a block to buy something? The only reason I even carry a wallet is for when I've got my gun or if I'm driving. Otherwise, I don't need it.
Your Mexican boyfriend was a woman, or wearing women's clothing? You said he didn't bring his ID either. My wife carries her ID around with her everywhere. Everyone I know does, man or woman. And we don't live in an area prone to ICE raids. It's the smart thing to do.

There are a million reasons why someone - especially someone in an urban environment staying close to home - wouldn't carry ID on them. I'm sorry that it's so difficult for you to understand how people who are different than you live.

And if being monolingual suits you, you are mightily entitled to being so. I rather enjoy being a fluent speaker of a second language and understanding a few key phrases in several other languages. My life experience has been "virtuously" enriched and broadened by engaging with those who speak other languages. It's a means of seeing life from a different angle.

Nope, no legal requirement, but it looks like you found out just one of the many reasons it's smart to carry your ID around with you. There may be a million reasons not to but very few of them are good ones. I hope you learned something.

I don't think everyone bends over easily like you do. I didn't spend a good part of my life deployed overseas so Americans would spread their cheeks like you. I proudly fought for freedom.
I don't carry my wallet if I'm simply going to the store. There's no need. If people have a problem with that, that's what needs to be changed.

I've just always considered it good sense. Always have your phone, your keys and your wallet with you when you leave the house. Back in the day I always had change for a pay phone too.

Anyways, I think in this day and age, other than when driving or carrying a gun, you don't need your wallet when leaving your house. Your phone is your keys and payment method... I can't remember I last used physical cash or plastic.
