The Trump administration at one time was considering privatizing the VA, it was a point of contention. Increased use of provide doctors will no doubt be a significant increase. They already use some private doctors such as heart specialists so not sure what the particular specialty they would be using for VA patients.

VA's problem has never been about funding, contrary to popular belief. The problems at the VA are not understaffed and overburdened hospitals as much as poor management and a lack of accountability and oversight. While funding increased 57 percent since 2008 the number of patients treated at VA facilities went up only 13.8 percent. In other words, funding growth outpaced the growth in patient load by a more than four to one margin.

So if part of that fund goes to private hospitals, it might not be a bad thing. I don't think Trump will abolish the VA completely, after all, Trump just signed the largest VA budget ever.

This is one of the scenarios that no matter what he does, it won't be good for some folks.
