"That" has no antecedent. You didn't mention any fear, and there isn't any fear.

That's why people are okay with his lies. Any "scientist" who doesn't understand this already probably isn't much of a scientist.
Or trying to LOOK BUSY!

It is probably too soon to try to understand their apparent immunity to his lies. Trump fans are largely blind to his lies maybe because they are mostly low information people and what information they do get is from Fox, talk radio, or Trump himself. You see this in small town America. They live in a bubble. Even if they question something Trump says, peer pressure will squelch any expressed doubt. If you are sitting with your friends over coffee at the local cafe in Hootenholler Oklahoma, you are probably not going to express doubt in something Trump says or question his policies. The Trump bubble is nearly impervious to anything not filtered through right-wing sources. Acceptance of Trump has become the glue that holds the bubble, a social network, together. It isn't that actual objective news isn't easily available, it doesn't make it through the bubble filter.

People living under (and accepting) the sway of Nazi propaganda during the Third Reich were unquestioning at the time but later some admitted that they had doubts but dismissed them or didn't dare express them. Information was filtered as state policy - there was no objective source. That is unlike the Trump bubble that has access to objective news but ignores it or dismisses it. This seems to be based on social conformity within the bubble. Sordid and troublesome behaviors and beliefs are empowered in the Trump bubble. Following Trump's lead, there isn't any limit to what you can say or who you can demean. There really isn't any other explanation for crowd behavior at Trump rallies. After Trump is gone it might be easier to figure out what is going on.

Gotta admit, Trump using a magic marker to extend predicted range of a hurricane was a hoot. If that didnt make even Republicans scratch their heads, dont know what would. I mean it was completely pointless and off the wall.

Unfortunately I think he does so much of this crap that people just shake their collective head and assume its just "crazy Uncle Donald" being weird again. Maybe just crazy Uncle Donald, but wanting crazy Uncle Donald with finger on the nuclear button.... or able to start WW III, or Great Depression part II, maybe not greatest idea. He maybe gets you what you want short term, but causing serious harm long term. Americans always have had problem thinking long term though.

From the article...

Despite all the proven scandals and alleged high crimes and misdemeanors, despite the many strategic political blunders (foreign and domestic), despite the barrage of ongoing federal, state and congressional investigations (at least 16), Trump’s approval ratings have remained remarkably stable throughout his first term.

Despite all of that... the economy is humming along at record levels, unemployment is at record lows for minorities and women, non-violent criminals have received a lifeline to jump start their lives, we are in no major wars, unfair trade deals are being with... all of this while under constant attack from the rabid liberals... all of this while his followers (both adults and minors) are attacked by the rabid antifa types...
In other words, Trump can lie how many more thousands of times he feels like it as long as hardly anybody is being adversely impacted for swallowing those lies.

Reagan was called the Teflon president during good times. Nothing he got accused of could stick to him. He went on to win reelection.

Trump is Teflon, if the Evangelicals don't hold the cold, hard truth against him for nominating a homosexual judge.

That deep fear colors their entire spectrum of activity, from voter suppression to trickle-down policies to brutality towards women and children seeking asylum. It leads their elected officials to accept almost any level of criminality in order to retain some power for awhile longer. McConnell, Graham, etc.

They know they're a shrinking portion of the US voting population and they see that the upcoming generation overwhelmingly rejects their social, political and economic agendas. They realize that when the tipping point arrives, and it will within the next decade or so, they'll never recover.

tRump represents their last, or next to last, gasp. They'll fervently back his every action, ignorant utterance, and tweet because they see him as the only thing holding back the incoming tide of progress and tolerance that they feel so threatened by.

They'll even claim that tRump is "building that wall" even though they know it isn't true. Self delusion can be a strong narcotic. So strong they'll not only swallow tRump's lies, but willingly lie to themselves and lash out angrily at reality. We see it here daily.

DTS, MAGA and all that stuff.

Well stated. A large percentage of Trump's supporters are his age or older and as they fade into the past, most of the influence and control they once enjoyed, will not be perpetuated by the following generations. This must be very bad for them, to know that their legacy will not be valued or respected. If they can somehow extend it for just a few more years, it may soothe their troubled minds. It apparently does not matter to them, about the damage that is being done to our country. In their selfish view, the only thing they hold important, is their own interests.

And on another line of thought, what effect would it have on Trump, if he is acquitted in an impeachment trial in the Senate? Would he then think that he really can get away with anything and ramp his bad behavior up even higher? His supporters might go wild with an inflated concept of his powers. As bad as it's been, it could still become a lot worse.

"Scientists" ......lol.

It doesn't take a scientist to figure out why so many Americans would support a douchebag like Trump.

The fact is that the Left has gone so far off the deep end that they actually make Trump look good.

Throw in the Supreme Court situation and many Americans would vote for their dog before voting for Hillary or any of the current crop of Leftist candidates.

The Left made Trump possible.
