The problem is Americans think any request for a reduction in military spending is the same as spitting on the flag....
Or they assume that there's a firm correlation between high military spending and conditions and equipment for the troops in the field. Which is manifestly not the case.
It should be reduced, and many conservatives like Rand Paul will agree.

because some extremists on the right wing still think the majority want to continue spending like drunks on an ever expanding ever more costly military... (much of it is vested interests )

Frankly i can't even begin to figure how you thought the rethugs were getting the lion's share of military spending.. kind of weird really
It is split up precisely to ensure the money keeps rolling in, give it all to one political group and the other one might slash funding for votes...
What we both need to do is tell our Rs or Ds we want military funding cut evenly everywhere over the course of a decade or two...
Government running everything of your life, from housing, health care, employment, thats what the military is about.
That is conditions of the employment contract, that is compensation for work provided, signed up under this contract.
Getting compensated by contract for employment is now socialism?
