Agreed, and we have to realize that Trump's way of "working on issues" is to toss something at the wall to see if it will stick, or more importantly whether it will serve as raw meat to salivate his base. There is no strategy or end goal to this "work" other than his desire to see the next group of brainwashed devotees cheering him at one of his rallies. The Trump phenomena is nothing more than old fashioned populist fascism, dressed in 2019 clothing.

There is no sensible reason to have this poll, and it is yet another example of why the media is so untrustworthy and corrupt.
Because past behaviors are an indication of future behaviors. And thug is a thug is a thug.

Most people don’t watch cable news.

While MSNBC REPORTED the poll outcome, it did not conduct the poll.

I don’t understand people who take calls from strangers and disclose opinions, political affiliation, age and sometimes a whole lot more, let alone do so honestly.
I don't either, but some parents of first half baby boomers are still around and think, if you are home and otherwise unoccupied, that it is wrong to not answer the phone and act politely (as long as the person isn't trying to get them to buy something). There is one in my family, and she is a strong person. She's a wealthy, well educated woman who has traveled all over the world, she's just spent so much time around people with the same values, that she is the way she is in that way, IMO, reflexively. We baby boomers (her kids, nieces, and nephews) have tried to get her to look at caller ID and not pick up unless she recognizes the number...but to no avail.

1,120 respondents, with party breakdown as follows:

R - 24%
D - 31%
I - 37%
Don't know - 8%

Given that Gallup polling since 1991 shows that among those who initially identify as Independent, 18% (2017) will say they lean Democrat, and 15% will say they lean Republican. This corrects the break down a follows:

R: 24 + (.15 * 37) = 29.5%
D: 31 + (.18 * 37) = 37.7%
I: 37 - (.33 * 37) = 24.8%
DK: 8%

So without knowing a single other thing, we know the polling sample population skews Democrat by at least 8 points.

We also know that the vast majority of Americans get their news and information from TV, and that by vast majority of outlets, airtime, and volume of spoken/printed words and images projected on the screen, TV media skews wildly Democrat.

If I was throwing an educated guess as to the straight R vs D sampling percentage, assuming I had researched and corrected for all the various biases, it would be 37% thinking/leaning Republican and 63% thinking/leaning Democrat, with a +/-6% margin of error.

And his numbers are actually about right where they should be given that sample set of 1,120 people and te various polling errors/biases that are part of any Trump poll.

That poll will happen in November 2020.
