What do you think ? Good idea ?

—-
Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren has proposed breaking up the big tech giants, including Amazon, Facebook and Google, a move she says will help the "next generation of great American tech companies ... flourish."

Warren proposed two ways of restoring competition to the tech sector, including passing legislation that would designate the large platforms as "platform utilities" and reversing already approved mergers, which she deemed "illegal and anti-competitive."

Concerning the platforms and rebranding them as utilities, Warren said that companies with annual global revenues of $25 billion or more that offer online marketplaces, exchanges or places to connect third parties would be designated as utilities and be prohibited from owning both the platform and participants on the platform.

I actually agree with her on this. It's long overdue. There are already anti-monopoly laws in place that these giants seem to have skirted. She's right about competition. These mega giants collude with each other to knock down anybody that tries to compete with them. MS and Apple help in that area too.

I'd like to hear her explanation as to what's the allure of flourishing if it only results in the government wanting to knock you down?

But, I don't think she has a chance at winning the nomination so it's probably moot.

Anti monopoly laws are long ignored. Good luck on that. The biggest players own congress.

i have mixed feelings about this. i dont like social media like facebook, so i dont use it, but it became popular because it connected people more efficiently than other platforms.

amazon gives small mom and pop stores a wider customer base that they would have without something like amazon.

as for google, they are becoming microsoft in a manner of speaking. is that a bad thing? i dont think so, and there are dozens of search engines out there. and by the way, and this will get under thee lefties skin, rush limbaugh was a big factor in the popularity of google, since he commented on using it regularly on his radio show in the 90s.

in the past ATT was broken up, only to have the company ultimately reform through mergers.but it did give rise to other telecom companies like verizon, sprint, etc.

IF there's evidence of them breaking any law(s) they should be held accountable.

But what if their only 'crime' is success?

And shouldn't it be noted that companies like Amazon provide an outlet for many small businesses to sell their wares they would not otherwise have?
