Oh okay, I thought the cop would have probably just followed him to see where he was going and then once he got into is building, he would be more safe and sound for the time being. I didn't think a cop would shoot when they could easily walk after him as oppose to a running chase.
Last thing you want to do with a cop on a power trip is go somewhere out of public view. I was concerned when the guy started to walk around back away from the busy street.
Best part of the video was when the original cop's superior/captain told him to give the guy his id back and we're out of here. You know the original cop didn't like that but was now in the position of having to do as told. I think he cut the audio right after that because he expected the guy to be gloating and laughing at him. He was humiliated because the guy never did sit down.
The guy is lucky the captain was there, who was not emotionally invested and did not want to have to clean up a mess from an ugly incident started by a dumb beat officer.
Wow, this is stunning. IMO, the cop should've gotten back in his squad car and radioed that there was an individual claiming he lived there and was picking up trash. Nothing threatening. Then perhaps provide surveillance/patrol the area until the individual finished and went back into his home.

The man was picking up trash around the apt complex, doing nothing wrong. With that said, he also didn't comply, swore and acted hostile toward the officer. At the end of the video sound goes off , did the man even live there?

Several times it was confirmed by one of the otehr cops that he lived there. The guy didn't start swearing until well in on the harassment, after he's had enough of the nonsense. He wasn't going to have his chain yanked and be told to sit and roll over and bark. If the guy had complied he would have ended up handcuffed and taken to the police station.
Glad to hear that the cop resigned and the guy survived. Clearly a abuse of power.
If I was the guy I'd find the ex-cop's address and send him a letter suggesting therapy for his control issues and offering to hire him to pick up trash but only if he can do as he is told.

If I had any advice to give a young person who was confronted by the police, I would say comply with the officer. I know I have every time I was stopped for traffic issues, most of the time resulting in just a simple warning, with no ticket. Why escalate the situation into nonsense.
In a case like this one though, especially given todays climate, if someone is doing yard work on their front yard, depending on that individuals mindset and personality, I wouldn't be shocked if many would do something similar what this individual did and tell the cop to take a hike.

He did comply. He was asked what he was doing. He answered honestly. He told them he lived there. He was answering honestly. Even if he was lying unless the cops had a valid reason to believe a crime was happening or the guy was suspected of a crime, they have to let it go.
That the officer did not is why he is no longer a police officer. An example of "do the crime, do the time". The officer was violating the guys rights. He lost his job.
If this was the outcome more often we would have fewer problems. Cops have a job to do BUT they absolutely have to know it doesn't give them the right to do whatever they want.
