I grew up in a conservative county. I can recall many times getting called the "N" word to my face and dealing with racism.

floorist is right on. the cop roach had no reason to bother the guy, except that the guy was black and the cop roach was on a power trip.

well then lets put you in your own yard, picking up trash, washing your car or what ever, and send eight cops around to you demanding that you give them your ID FOR NO REASON. are you willing to give up your fourth amendment rights? how about we push the issue here, and have the cops demand entry into your house without a warrant or without exigent circumstances. are you going to just let them in?

do you really want to give up your rights to cop roaches that are on a power trip and thik that because they have a piece of tin pinned t their shirts they can order you around like a slave?

In a case like this one though, especially given todays climate, if someone is doing yard work on their front yard, depending on that individuals mindset and personality, I wouldn't be shocked if many would do something similar what this individual did and tell the cop to take a hike.

its one thing to comply when you have been stopped by a cop for a traffic offense, it is anther thing to have a cop roach just walk up to you and demand to see your papers. this is not the soviet union, or nazi germany. cops cannot just walk up to you and demand to see your papers without cause.

remember that that badge pinned to the cops shirt DOES NOT give them authority over you, it makes them your servant, unless you have committed, are about to commit, or are committing a crime. if none of those occur then the cop has no reason to even look at you.

but if you like living in a police state, then by all means follow every order the nice cop roach gives you. let them strip search you in public if they want, give them your ID for no reason if you want. i m sure that no cop roaches will take advantage of the situation

learn your rights, and stand up for those rights, and be prepared to sue the cops for violations of those rights. one more thing, a violation of ones civil rights is also A CRIMINAL OFFENSE, and often times they are FELONIES. if these cops are operating under color of law, meaning they are operating OUTSIDE the law, then you can get their qualified immunity revoked and sue them personally.

Police bruality is a big problem, and I agree that it needs to stop. I also want to say something else. Most of the biggest racists I've dealt with were not cops. It was individuals I went to high school with. It was some bigot in his truck screaming the N word at my while driving by. It was someone making bigoted remarks about interracial marriage.

well cops wont come right out and say things that are openly racist. instead they will stop you for no reason, and make up a charge of some sort, then pull you and your passengers out of the car to identify you for his "safety", and then come up with a reason to search your car, and possibly arrest you on trumped up charges.

What if they made it a law that a cop is not allowed to ask anyone for ID, unless they have probable cause that a crime has been committed. Would that reduce excessive harassment, in cases such as this?

Quite pathetic, makes me wonder how "free" we are in the USA.

Picking up trash, the Polcestapo still demand "your papers"!

Cops would ignore the law, or make up an excuse.

That is the law. Well, they can ask but you don't have to provide it.
