We passed laws to protect whistleblowers, unless of course the whistle is blown on those who create those laws.
Manning is refusing to provide info on Julian Assange
Manning is going to jail to protect info re how s/he was contacted and passed information
This info was not part of the original military tribunal because Assange was a civilian and couldn’t be tried by the military
Manning has immunity —

What do you not understand about the crime of disclosing classified information?
I addressed that. How many times do I need to address it? Please, give me an exact number.
Lies should not be classified as something that is protected. Exposing lies is exactly why we have whistleblower laws. The government should not be above the same standards.

other than the fact that classifying something doesnt mean the press doesnt have a right to report on it?
in almost all instances, it does mean that. suppose for the sake of argument, the military planned to exterminate half of its own country. do you think classifying that removes the right of the press to do its job? by no means saying that the press can just go grabbing anything it wants and publishing it. a good starting point for whether the press has the right to leak is-- are the actions theyre reporting illegal under the constitution? if so... think about it.
i realise that theres a safety issue (to put it mildly) which is why all leaks done by journalists should be done according to professional protocols. otherwise, you put troops in unnecessary danger.
the troops have an oath to protect the constitution. congress takes a similar oath-- i have no problem extending that responsibility (and the rights that go with it) to the press. even if i have a very low opinion of the media, i have a great deal of respect for the job they are supposed to be doing. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daniel_Ellsberg sometimes that job is just as vital as the military itself-- and it can save (at times, has saved) the lives of troops and other americans.

You are not getting it. Classified information: Top secret, Secret, Confidential. Intentional disclosure and passing to third party is a crime, Period. Manning should be in jail.

Lies should never be classified information. I've addressed this how many times now? Tell me, why do you support the government lying to us?
How do you condemn politicians lying to us when you support the government lying to us overall?
James CLapper lied to the country under oath. It wasn't even classified. It was in hearings under oath. That is why Snowden did what he did. Why do you support something like the government lying to us?
