"The government of Finland collapsed Friday due to the rising cost of universal health care and the prime minister's failure to enact reforms to the system.
Prime Minister Juha Sipila and the rest of the cabinet resigned after the governing coalition failed to pass reforms in parliament to the country's regional government and health services, the Wall Street Journal reports. Finland faces an aging population, with around 26 percent of its citizens expected to be over 65 by the year 2030, an increase of 5 percent from today."

Their government collapsed as their socialism is unsustainable. And yet another lesson on how bad socialism is that liberals won’t learn from.

That's the thing about Freebies - they are an addiction that nobody wants to give up OR reform.

There is no "ability to reform and rationalize at a National Level. They are all too afraid to even try.
We have the same thing here in the USA with ObamaCare -- it's not good, everyone knows it's not good.
Everyone is aware it must be "reformed and rationalized at a National Level" -- but they don't dare try.

You can say exactly the same thing about our very broken Immigration Laws that pretty much everyone ignores anyway.
This statement hints at a campaign of propaganda that I suspect is waged in the US, with regards to the healthcare debate -it seems a uniquely American attitude and turn of phrase, that is pretty much absent in my universal healthcare country, and other similar countries I would think. People in such countries are generally happy with the status quo, and debate centres around implementation, not the notion of freebies and people getting something for nothing.

Reform and rationalization of healthcare at a national level is very much possible, and does happen -although I think it would certainly be more difficult in the US, due to population and ideological divide

On the flip side, their education system is top notch. Consistently ranks as one of the best in the world. At least they have that. US have crap healthcare and and crap education.

What this means is that the system works! The Fins choose to have great schools over great hospitals, that's their choice, but public funded system worked and it is one of the best in the work. If US does the same thing and divert the fund to healthcare instead of other things, we'll have a great healthcare just like the Fins have a great school system.

.
I agree with most of what you say. But you do realize that we spend more per pupil on education than Finland? In fact we spend more than anyone except the Swiss, last I checked. Our crap education is not due to lack of funding.

Finland is not socialist. Their system is 'social democracy.' Socialism is gov't ownership of the means of production. None of the Scandinavian countries have that.

Once the government starts giving something to people damn near impossible to stop or take it away. This is why I don't vote to give anything to anyone ever. There are other, better ways that don't enrich the government.

They will also never stop a tax or special fee. If you're lame enough to vote on the local 5 year "pot hole" tax to fix your roads just know going it it's a forever tax.

So true. There was a 'temporary' tax on telephones to help fund the Spanish-American War in 1898. It did expire several times, but was always brought back. In 1947 it was extended indefinitely. It's still with us.

Their socialism is unsustainable is why the government collapsed. I don’t care what language you cloak it in, socialism is a path to destruction.

With 3+ TRILLION dollars in free money available to the Medical Industrial Profiteering System, you can only imagine their budget for spreading propaganda.

The ONE TRILLION we are borrowing each year to finance our #37 in the world health care system.....isn't exactly "great".

Nah. Readers Digest readers helped make us great. These people don't read - they watch State TV and Listen to State and Hate Radio.
