If Trump were a capitalist who believed in free markets he'd cut it by 100% and back the state entirely out of healthcare so it would become more affordable for all.

If you put 19000 in your 401k every single year for the next 30 years and luck into good stock market returns you may have a million or so in your 401k. Of course by then inflation will probably eat a lot of your gains. And you get taxed when you withdraw money.

You may then be able to modestly retire in the US in a lower cost state on $3000-3500 a month. But either way an extra 2k a month will be welcome to you in old age as will affordable healthcare.

Again the above is an absolute best case scenario. Most likely you won't be so lucky.

If it wasn't for the fact that it would cause so much suffering among those who didn't vote Trump, I could almost hope the old farts with MAGA hats would get to enjoy their object lesson. Almost.
The thing is I think they are fine with their own suffering as long as they can make the people they hate suffer.

Republicans under Trump...serpents.
Big smiles hide that forked tongue.

Republicans as a species are very mean.

That is insane. Without medicare, the elderly couldn't afford medical care, as they are uninsurable in the private market (too much risk, since they are the biggest consumers of healthcare); they would have to pay cash for all medical treatment. And at that point, I would expect our average life expectancy to drop into the 60s from the current 78

Per the bolded, it now sucks for first time buyers. It's only good for sellers right now.

How about you go read the DETAILS on what Trump is doing to make those cuts instead of believing the "spin" the media is putting on it? I'm quite disgusted that this thread has as many pages as it does and only one poster has posted some of HOW they plan to make the cuts. They are proposing to cut costs through cutting the fat, overpaying for drugs and supplies, and tighten up on fraud...fake claims...etc.
The government gets ripped off for everything from prescription drugs to supplies and power chairs supplied to seniors and people on disability. All those "at no cost to you ads for power chairs, diabetes equipment, and so on you see on TV, how do you think that works? They charge the government a fortune for it of course. Some medications are $1000's of dollars a month, and the same one in other countries is $30. Our medical system is broken when an ear infection costs a medical insurer $220 to diagnose, the patient pays a $30 copay, gets prescribed some antibiotic ear drops in addition to making an appointment missing part of their workday and then going to a pharmacy, when in other countries it's a 5 minute visit to the medical store and 7 euros for the ear drops.

The housing market has also shown signs of softening.
