2/3rds of fleet is grounded via international agencies with domain over their fleets.. pretty much only USA left operating them, given powerful Boeing lobby and cozy FAA-Boeing relationships...

Maddow story on the topic ...

shows the Boeing software FIX for the issue was due to roll out in Jan, various delays but the KEY delay was TRUMP. yes TRUMP.

Trump's Federal SHUTDOWN halted world on the fix entirely for FIVE WEEKS...

in short, this crash may not have happened if Trump did not shut down the GOV and FAA...

a Full five week delay due to stupid trump. Looks like it will be released April now DUE TO TRUMPs 5 week delay...

Trump never bothered to appoint a new head of the FAA , it has an acting director for the last year due to Trump's lack of interest... he has not even nominated anyone yet....

it is stunning to see Trump fans, just ignoring the damage he is doing through his complete incompetence and his massive ego .

If Trump was on the ball, and trying to run the country instead of a campaign, he would have gotten someone appointed to lead the FAA by now. which may well have moved things forward faster.

Add in the five week delay caused by Trump tantrum and we are looking at a strong chance these deaths would have been avoided...

And for the folks who don't care about the dead, let me remind you, the cancelled flights will cost a massive amount of money and the loss of face will cost Boeing when they are trying to sell planes...

Both the GOV and Boeing have handled this badly. Hubris brings down the mighty...

Is is just that she wants a News Story? Is it that she is totally Senile?

U.S. senator calls on FAA to ground Boeing 737 MAX 8 |Reuters - 3/11/19

Is there anyone here that actually thinks that Boeing Air is willing to deal with the massive legal problems involved IF they had even a small suspicion of any danger to this aircraft?

The Lawsuits are so MASSIVE that any "grounding" is a very, very, very Serious business.

Unbelievable
"I bet she is the most popular Senator today in several States."

ALL dem controlled states.

What makes her an expert on planes and piloting?

It is nothing but grandstanding which ALL politician do.

It is the responsibility of the FAA to make those decisions.

IF the FAA has NOT done it why even have it if politicians are going to "take over"?

Ethiopia and the other countries only get about 200 hours flight training tome on this plane.

The U.S. pilots have OVER, 1,500 HOURS of training.

"The Lawsuits are so MASSIVE"

What do people in places like Ethiopia going to get?

Especially if it turns out to be pilot error.

And from a different perspective, the damage that Trump has done to our reputation and our power of influence is on full display as S-hole nations ban the use of our aircraft and Ethiopia says it will send the black boxes to Europe for evaluation not trusting the US NTSB to do a fair and honest job. It will take a long time, if ever, to undue the damage that Trump and his band of corporate thieves and establishment lobbyists have done.

The EU?

Then again, Airbus, which competes toe to toe with Boeing, is a European based, publicly- traded, aerospace corporation.

Boeing and the FAA are betting the farm on this one. I hope they will be on the right side of history.

You don't know what you're talking about. Lion Air was a local operation and those are dicey, but Ethiopian is an FAA Category 1 and a member of the Star Alliance.

No, they are not.

Boeing has already admitted their is a problem. But to listen to the posters here one would not know that.

Boeing has a fix in the works, a software and hardware fix...

Instead of Boeing releasing world wide bulletins, ensuring all customers and all pilots were fully updated, fully aware of the risks and what to do should such a thing occur. Instead of all that, Boeing played it down thinking they could roll out the fixes quickly before it happened again ...

BUT TRUMP, shut down GOV... those 5 weeks exposed the world to an additional 5 weeks of risk..

Boeing bet big on getting the software fix out fast. Trump stopped them. Another plane crashed. There will be a full investigation and likely massive lawsuits.

and yes this is political, it is exactly WHY we don't shut down gov over stupid stuff. Trump gambled with lives and this is the result.

While many Trumpers won't care because the deaths are of NON americans, the rest of the world will care.
