rich people pay hush money all the time, and for a variety of reasons. you still have to prove that trump used campaign money to pay the hush money in the first place.

no, i don't. the repayment doesn't have to be from campaign funds for this to be a crime.




both cohen and pecker gave money for the benefit of the campaign ( by their own admission ) that exceeded campaign contribution limits at a felony level. trump was aware of these contributions and took measures to secretly repay cohen ( it seems that he was attempting to stiff pecker ). that put's trump in violation under conspiracy laws ( and possibly donnie j. jr since he signed for one of the repayment checks out of the trump trust ).


none of that is contingent on the repayment money coming from the campaign. the only way the daniels and mcdougal pay-offs would have been legal is if trump originally paid them from his personal funds, where there are no campaign donation limits, and he reported the donation.

dem presidential candidate john edwards went to trial over a similar situation. it ended in a hung jury because they couldn't decide if the hush-money was specifically for the benefit of the campaign and wouldn't have happened independent of the campaign ( the money was paid over a year before the election ). that's not the situation with trump. both cohen and pecker have admitted the money was paid directly for the benefit of the campaign and trump had rejected previous opportunities to pay daniels.
