That 40% of Americans continue to worship because they are so consumed by their rage and hate for their fellow Americans who don't look, act, believe, or love exactly like they do.
Truly terrifying times to live in this country. I think the 2020 election is going to have a lot of parallels with 1860. I hope I'm wrong.
As many law enforcement agencies will tell you, the radical right is a bigger threat to this country than any outside force.
Put the bean sprout sandwich down and repeat after me: "Donald J. Trump is my president, too. He was democratically elected, having defeated a terrible opponent in Hillary Clinton. End of story."
Already his authoritarian rhetoric is so thoroughly normalized that it hardly even registers as news any more.
This is true, this man has so devolved and debased the conversation in this country that his thuggish and veiled threats have not gone unheeded. Remember Cesar Syoc? Remember the Coast Guard guy with an arsenal and a hit list? When Trump was asked about the Coast Guard guy, and if his speech might have influenced him, he said "No way, there is nothing wrong with my speech", the man is truly too stupid to understand the ramifications.
