It all boils down to two facts that gun control proponents
have not been able to address:
(1) There is a direct relationship between restrictive gun control laws and increased crime. Almost all gun control laws have been statistically proven to be linked to increases in crime.
(2) Criminals by definition do not obey the law. Using a firearm to harm another is already illegal.
Proponents might want to spend more time thinking about the facts, and less time writing about feelings that won't fix the problem.

The Second Amendment is in place in case the politicians ignore the others.

Exactly!!
The only problem though, not enough people are willing to come together and recognize when action needs to be taken (to remove a govt from power by force).
Of course this is because alot of people allow themselves to be duped into believing all these tough laws and regulations, are to protect their health and safety (this is what confuses people the most), they give in and believe Govt is acting in their best interest, so it would not be right to remove them from power.
Govt has basically disguised tyranny as concern for safety/security and people fell for it.
Liberals operate from fear, and they’ve got an entire routine about people supposedly shooting family members and not being able to stop criminals, But people who want to take away your rights under the pretense of safety and security are really just laying the groundwork for tyranny.
In the end, the only form of gun control that works is taking aim before pulling the trigger.
It seems to me that people who believe in their guns, and “the only form of gun control that works is taking aim before pulling the trigger” is the person living in fear.
Eventually the rest of us WILL be too afraid to gather in church or public meetings, or in concerts or fireworks displays, because of the chance of some angry fool with a grudge and an automatic weapon, firing into the crowd.
SYDNEY, Australia — The rampage at a high school in Parkland, Fla., has prompted calls for an Australian-style response, as have previous massacres in the United States. Australia introduced a comprehensive gun control regime after a massacre in Tasmania 22 years ago, and mass shootings here dropped to zero. Some experts regard it as the most effective gun control system in the world.
But the Australian model won’t work in the United States. Here’s why: We Australians have a profoundly different relationship with weapons. Americans love guns. We’re scared of them.https://www.nytimes.com/2018/02/23/o...s-america.html
I think this is dead on. America does have a relationship with weapons beyond other countries. Sometimes I think we'd all die trying to do what other countries have done with gun laws.

It seems to me that people who believe in taking away guns from those who own them lawfully, are the ones who are living in fear. If they weren't living in fear of those who own them lawfully then they wouldn't be looking to take them away.

At least to my knowledge Australians never had a specific right to keep and bear arms.

No, Australia does not have the right to bear arms. This is due to the "Port Arthur massacre" in which there was a large killing spree. 35 people were killed and 21 injured.
Norway has had one mass shooting (one), but depending on how you spin the data, you can make it look like they are worse off than US, although we have them all the time.
Using critical thinking helps unravel these mysteries.
Norway also has a homogenous country regarding race. Look at who commits most murders and violent crime in the US. There is a reason to want to be armed for protection here.
