But then he realized his mistake, formed an alliance, and initiated an air campaign so intense that there was a real danger of running low on the relevant munitions. If you're interested (you're not) you can see how ISIS was fought to a standstill, slowly lost control of terrain, and then rapidly retreated through 2016.
But that would involve the work that comes with building a fact-based worldview, so - make with the soundbites.
ISIS was fought to a stand still. That is like saying Mike Tyson fought Pee Wee Herman to a stand still and being proud of it. WE are the world's sole super power. WE could have owned them if only we let our Military do what they do best.
Now I detest Trump. Didn't vote for him, will never vote for him, but according to those who were over there, we eventually turned it around in spite of Obama not because of him. LBJ was of the same ilk when it came to the job of Commander and Chief. "They don't bomb an outhouse lesson I say so."
But the ideology requires only zealotry to survive.
It will always survive. Bombing grand pa's house regardless of how bad he was, will make at least some his grand children resentful. Kill them all or leave them alone. These people are triple at beast. They have little or no sense of a national identity and care not at for the tribe they are historically in conflict with. We will never make them buy into a change in their culture. Hearts and minds is complete BS.

I 100% absolutely agree. 10 aircraft carriers. How many of those carrier battle groups patrol our own waters? We can't even use our troops to defend our own borders.

Islam has no borders and has been violently expanding for 1400 years. Nothing new.
Freaking finally, not sure why Obama wasn't able to accomplish in 8 years what Pres Trump accomplished in 2 but the good thing is we finally got it done.
Trump is yanking your chain more to the point your fooling yourself and you know better.
YOu need to do a little reading. The caliphate must have territory to survive.
But terrorists don’t. Oppression of Sunnis will lead to another civil war quite likely within a few years. Hopefully we will be smart enough to stay out of it.

Why on Earth are you linking to 2013 stories about Afghanistan? Come ON, time and geography are real things. ISIS wasn't Afghanistan, it's - GAH!, it's maddening to try to have a conversation here.
Anyway, yes, a massive air, land and sea invasion could have put ISIS' territory under US control, and then what? Then the US is an occupying force. Iraq on a larger scale, where - as per usual - the US won the war and utterly botched the occupation.
The fight against ISIS did not lead to high US casualties, because it was fought intelligently. The Iraqi Army - who'd been used to calling on Uncle Sam every time they got themselves in a scrape - finally had the training wheels removed and while they didn't like that in the beginning, they emerged as a capable force. US and western allies defanged ISIS by airstrikes (and undoubtedly some SpecOps), and the local forces on the ground could take them on. For goddamn once, the US military played their strengths to an enemy's weakness. Worth celebrating.
