Trump to sign EO supporting campus free speech today, putting at risk federal funding to the noncompliant

Its a start. Hopefully it will have some teeth to withhold funds.

Trump set to sign executive order on campus free speech -

Public universities will have to vow to uphold the First Amendment — something they already must do — and private universities will have to promise to uphold their own "stated institutional policies regarding freedom of speech," essentially setting their own rules.
The show must go on.

And the first time a university cancels a speaker because of fear of violence, and refused funding...they will go to court and it will be determined that universities have to be able to cancel events that pose a threat to the students/their community.

Those private schools that get funds best heed this.

If you are an sjw, and don't believe in the idea of free market of ideas. Better fork up your money and go to private college instead where it is possible to shutdown ideas like Yale for example.

People will be able to vote with their tuition money. If they want to go to a private school that promotes hate speech instead of free speech that is their choice. Many such colleges will see enrollment plummet like Evergreen State College in WA after their social justice debacle.

Seems a lot of people have forgotten Mario Savio.

I am a free speech fundamentalist, and although I applaud the intent of Trump's EO, I wonder why people think it protects only conservative speakers. I also wonder whether it will help protect all the "commie", "treasonous" college profs that so many denigrate. Could get really interesting.

The only thing "the "commie", "treasonous" college profs" lose is their one sided POV on campus.

It seems an oddly un necesary Act.
No one, can violate free speech without fear of problems.

Have the white nationalists complained about the bad press after Charlottesville?
Are they suing someone?

There is not much wrong with this Executive Order. It simply reinforces the laws that already exist.

And of course it protects the liberal speakers as much as the conservatives.

It's for show.

It does seem unnecessary, this is just Trump preaching to his followers. I don't see this changing much, the issue came up with Universities cancelling speakers because of violence or charging them for security.
