What?? We need to pay them MORE than $174,000 a year?! Damn, she's a special kind of dumb. At the same time, she's as amusing as anything I've ever seen.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez suggested that the salaries for members of Congress should be increased to ease the financial burden on members and to curb the incentive to cheat.

This is why it may be best to have wealthy political representatives; they are less likely to use their office to steal, as they have already made their fortunes.

There will be some slobs that walk into a job and get paid that much to stand their and breathe through their mouths. If they say $15 then why not make it $20 to really help people?

The moral is that you can pay someone a mint but if they don't have morals to begin with then you are not going to get an honest days work out of them.

I think AOC should go back to the real world far from the DC bubble and get a bit more life experience, and to think there are plenty of Dems that hang on her every word.
That should be stuck at the top of the P&OC forum, right underneath the header.

Some congress critters (like the ever so dim AOC) will voice how $174,000 is not enough. AOC seems to indicate that corruption is OK since the pay isnt "high enough".

I am amazed you wrote that. Are you related to AOC?

Didn't Brazil do exactly the opposite? I think they have a fairly large number of representatives and pay them a decent average professional salary. Bribing one of them won't get you far since you need a whole lot of them to win a vote.

$174,000 a year isn't that much if you're paying for two homes and raising a family.
