To illustrate the depravity of traditional "white man's culture", he tells a story about the origin of the term "rule of thumb" being the maximum width of the stick that Englishmen were allowed to use when they beat their wives. A quick Wikipedia check reveals that, while the etymology is unclear, Joe's version is almost certainly untrue.
