That's exactly what it is. A military dress uniform is the equivalent of a tux, or a business suit and tie. It shows respect to the ceremony and the occasion.

Now, if it had been camo fatigues and boots, that would have been another matter. But it wasn't.

The Marine was dressed appropriately for the occasion. The bride should not have been upset by the Marine's uniform.

Someone anonymously posts a story to an online forum and other media picks it up and it becomes click bait.

We have become a country of old women at the village well, on wash day.

Sounds like the bride was a AS*HO** who didn't like someone looking better than her. Seem like the Uniform and metals shining in her light pissed her off, not his actual service. Not sure why its in the political forum.

Good grief! It’s not like he wore a Big Bird outfit to the wedding.

Yes I agree. That poor groom.

Idiots do NOT know what is proper dress and what is not.

Full dress uniform IS considered acceptable in "black tie" affairs.

In full dress uniform the wearing of EARNED medals is REQUIRED.

It "seems like" the little snowflake is so insecure in her OWN life she can't handle life!

If I were the groom, I would have walked out on HER!

Default US Marine Kicked Out Of Wedding For Wearing his Uniform

meh...

So what?

The bride was a fool for overreacting and making a big deal out of it.

The Marine should have known better than to show up in his blues at a non-military wedding. No doubt he'll face more challenging situations on his next rotation.

Everyone involved will get over it.

If you actually read the source, a lot of comments on the story are from active military who thought it was very crass for the Marine to wear the uniform to a civilian wedding without permission of the married couple. Should the bride probably have ignored it? Probably. But the Marine is not 100% blameless either

A lot of active military were stating their own personal opinions.

The actual regulations have been listed here several times.

The invitation stated "black tie." Military black tie is the mess dress uniform. Heck, it's not even fully formal in the military--it's basically a "party" uniform.

A whole lot--maybe a majority--of Millennial American men don't own any non-casual clothing at all, so it wouldn't be surprising if the only thing this man had that fit the requested level of dress are the uniforms he's required to own. And that's the uniform that fits the level of dress stated in the invitation.
