It’s so much easier to attack people then it is to take a step back, listen, take things in and engage in an objective, open minded discussion. Many people are simply incapable of this type of thing.
Practically speaking, it is even possible to attack an idea "objectively", if you know what I mean? That is, attacking the idea without resorting to personal feelings/emotions.
Do you mean arguing with no emotion involved at all? I’d say that’s not likely...but I don’t see a problem with using emotion to sort of emphasize your point, as long as your arguments are valid. The problem is using it IN PLACE of a good argument.
Good example: Bob gets angry when talking about the national debt and how it’s being unfairly passed on to future generations.
Bad example: Joe explains that women work less hours on average and choose lower paying jobs, which accounts for most of the wage gap. Bob gets angry and calls Joe a misogynist who wants to keep women down.
