Just like MAGAs, liberals don't understand basic economics.

New York City restaurants are eliminating jobs, reducing employee hours and raising prices due to the higher costs of the $15-per-hour minimum wage.

A once-growing industry is contracting, according to an online survey conducted by the New York City Hospitality Alliance, an association representing restaurants in the city.

Last year, “full-service restaurants recorded a 1.6 percent job loss, which is the first recorded annual loss in two decades,” said Andrew Rigie, executive director of the trade group.

The survey also said about a third of respondents will eliminate jobs and most will raise prices this year because of the new $15-an-hour law backed by Gov. Andrew Cuomo and other state officials, which took effect on Dec. 31, 2018.

Stats showing 1.6 percent job loss was for the year before the law took effect. Those stats only show FULL SERVICE restaurants. Fast food and limited service restaurants likely had job increases so those stats conveniently were left off the list. Cherry picking.

Fast Food and Limited Service Restaurants are the fastest growing segment of the restaurant industry. This is taking away market share from Full Service restaurants all across the USA. Has nothing to do with minimum wage and everything to do with customers wanting a fast meal.

Isn't Wash state having the same results?

This is what you get when you pass laws based on emotions instead of FACTS!

Happens over and over with dem laws.

I take it neither of y'all have ever run a retail business or especially, a restaurant.

The restaurants proactively took steps to cut costs; it's called smart business.

And you missed the part where a third of the restaurants will cut jobs THIS YEAR and most will raise costs THIS YEAR.

You know who owns the NY Post--right? Of course they have an agenda.

In other news--New York's restaurant scene is expanding and thriving.

"...With a new year comes at least 365 new opportunities to eat out, and unsurprisingly, New York City has plenty of fresh spots to fill the calendar. The end of 2018 saw many buzzed-about openings of restaurants across the city and the start of 2019 has brought even more. To help you take full advantage of all your upcoming dining-out opportunities, we've compiled a list of new eateries to try..."

I believe so. But I think it was just Seattle.

Import taxes aren't Dem laws, and we were forced to give farmers welfare handouts because of them.

The Post definitely has an agenda, but it was from a restaurant association survey, so...

The LA Times story was almost exclusively about NYC culture, not the economy of minimum wage laws.

The Refinery story was about new restaurants opening, which will happen no matter what. There are still 8 million people in NYC, after all.

Ah. Restaurants open as a law of nature, yet only close due to a policy you don't like. Got it.

I work in NYC. It has been awful. Target in Bronx has 3x customers of my local Ct store, and just 2 live cashiers at rush hours, vs 6 in local Ct store. Bronx has 16 self serves vs just 6 in local store.

It is affecting low skill employment negatively in NYC, in terms of headcount.
