The art of the deal

https://www.cnbc.com/2019/02/18/a-us...ommentary.html

Last Wednesday, the Global Times, a Communist Party-run newspaper, published an article saying that the U.S. started trade frictions but now seems willing to make a deal.

For China, the deal will be based on the discussion late last year between Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping at the G-20 summit in Argentina.

Xi has probably agreed to a gradual decline of China's huge trade surpluses with the U.S., but there is no way that China's core leader would have agreed to U.S.-imposed structural reforms and American enforcement mechanisms that would serve as triggers for trade tariffs at Washington's discretion.

Beijing correctly believes that Trump, gearing up for a re-election run, will jump on such a deal, partly because Wall Street would love it — even though that would perpetuate an unforgivable, decades-old neglect of nearly one-third of the U.S. economy (the sum of exports and imports as a share of American GDP).

The bottom line: The deal appears to be done. China will continue to run large trade surpluses with the U.S., and it will never accept Washington-imposed reforms of its trade and industry.

The Maoist democrats will celebrate. They wanted China to win.
They could never sign on to America winning at anything.

I can hear the chanting now, long live China, we love the yoke of oppression.

We all know a Communist Party-run newspaper would never lie to its people or the American people.
They are every bit as honest as the DNC mouth piece MSM. And that is the rest of the story.

What a stroke of genius this thread is....
First you believe it, and then you actually make a thread to co-sign your name to it LMAO

Ahh -- again -- another Trump fan that is misinformed.

As a critic of Trump's trade policies, my concern was that Trump created chaos only to gain very little or have a useful impact on the ways things are.

The new Nafta agreement supports my concern.

I am hoping the real issues with China get addressed and we just didn't create chaos for a couple of years only to have minor repairs to an issue.

What were you going to do wait for China to bring up their unfair trade practices.

Trump is the only one to take on China's trade advantage.

No other politician had the guts to do it.

Most likely outcome is China will agree to do a lot of things then not do any of them. That's their MO and history. What ever agreement is reached is meaningless if not enforced. This story won't end when the agreement is reached.

Trump is the master trade negotiator.
A fictional newspaper like the Global Times doesn't change that fact....

China is already getting much MORE than they wanted. For two years now they have been installing themselves all over the world and making deals by telling the leaders "You can't trust the USA any more, partner with us).

There is ZERO scenario where our Trade Deficit with the Pacific Rim (in total) will come down any amount worth the loss or trillions from the stock market, etc.

There were changes and deals to be made but any and all should have been made in the course of normal business, not in the Trump "Wall" way.

The new and improved NAFTA is the old NAFTA with some minor changes.

Automobiles must have 75 percent of their components manufactured in Mexico, the US, or Canada to qualify for zero tariffs. This is up from 62.5 percent.

US dairy farmers get more access to Canadian market.

There are a couple smaller labor matters but the above are the big changes.

I'm not kidding.

Hope this trade deal with China is better than that.
