We lefties sure are a bunch of meanies.

Kind of funny that the GOP has been in charge of Congress most of the last 2 decades and continued to punt any comprehensive immigration policy.

So since you're going to point fingers, point them also at "your" party.

It's called "Never Trumpers" who got in the way. We got rid of one them, unfortunately too late. It wasn't for the lack of Trump trying. And now, it would be nice if the Dems would quit playing butthurt in Congress and do the job that people want them to do - get rid of illegal aliens in this country.

It wasn't "the USA" when people started coming over. It was not a country. How many times must this be explained to the left?

Immigration didn't stop when the USA became a country.

So why are you blaming the Left for this again?

And there is a difference between legal immigration and illegal aliens sneaking in. Of course, you knew that when you typed that post.

It was quite a lot of different nations at the time, but still it didn't stop people arriving there, i don't think they asked permission most of the time either.

How many of the total immigrant population actually went through the "proper" authorities? Most just disembarked and went on their way.

But of course you knew that when you typed your post.

Why? Because the left is 100% on board with unchecked mass immigration...illegal or otherwise. Granted, the Republican party historically and until very recently shared some of the blame. There are still plenty of globalist, establishment RINOs in the party that have no problem with illegal immigration and the cheap labor it provides them.

The Tea Party movement tried desperately tried to raise the issue of illegal immigration, out of control government spending, the federal debt, etc but were vilified and written off in the media as racist, xenophobic, white nationalist, etc rabble rousers. They sprang up at the end Bush's presidency as a direct result of his disastrously expensive Iraq war and financial crisis and ramped up even more when it became Obama was going to continue spending on new government program after new government program like there was no tomorrow.

The more pertinent question is why did Democrats who are now mostly supportive of new proposals (GND and Medicare for All) that will add TRILLIONS of dollars in new annual spending to the federal budget draw a line in the sand over a relatively tiny spending request of $5.7 billion for wall construction?

They're say they support the gamble of spending $4 trillion (with a T) extra a year on the GND that isn't guaranteed to work or solve the climate problem but claimed a $5.7 billion for a wall "won't work" or is a "waste of money". Talk about ironic

I am not an immigrant, but my wife and a lot of my family are. None receive nor ever received any of the welfare/social assistance, all came here legally.
