This is discussing the electoral college, which is federal. Federal taxes would apply. If you don't pay federal taxes, you get no vote.

Tuned in to see if there were any sensible arguments for abolishing the EC. Only read through a few pages. Don't see any. Carry on.

Prior to the 2016 election, Trump repeatedly referred to the Electorial College as evidence of the “rigged system”. His base agreed.

He ceased hammering the “ rigged system” once it elected him. His base seems to agree.

Don’t people tire of political whiplash?

It would seem much fairer to split the electoral college votes so that the candidates get them in proportion to the number of votes they got in any state.

So in CA at the 2016 election you had

Clinton 61.7%
Trump 31.6%
Johnson 3.4%
Stein 2.0%

So that would be

Clinton 34 EC votes
Trump 18 EC votes
Johnson 2 EC votes
Stein 1 EC vote
I have never heard this idea proposed. Very interesting.

I actually like the concept.

Nothing at all is gonna change in our lifetimes but I like the idea.

I vote independent, but would never want New York and California to decide an election, which is essentially what would happen due to the percentage of the population these two states have. This is the very definition of mob rule that the founders were trying to protect against.

No thanks.

With that said, like most of the whining I tend to see on the internet, I doubt the electoral college is going away anytime soon.

The will of the people should be paramount. Not the will of big or small, red or blue states. Let all the American people decide solely with their vote. The President is currently the only federal elected office not to be directly voted on by citizens. The US Senate already gives small states an outsized role in the federal government as the two seats for each state are not in any way proportional to their population.

Probably the most fair approach.

*Winner-takes-all* should go die in a fire.

Hello all. I have 3 concerns about our voting system.

1) Is there a way to adjust things so there are no "Swing States" in our EC system? Seems flawed somehow.

2) All the Electors, for All the states, do not have to cast their votes in accordance with popular vote for the
state they are representing. This leaves the voting process open to manipulation if the people of a state aren't voting in a way the Electors find favorable. This is a form of a loophole to me, a way to cheat and steer an election away from popular vote.

3) Picking the House and State Legislatures are influenced by the gerrymandering of districts by the Politicians of those districts. There's a bit of manipulating going on there too.

There is definitely room for improvement.
