Did all kinds of internet searches on Nadler and all I can find is he graduated from high school in 1965 and college in 1969.....both high wartime draft years...…….I cannot find anything about him having any deferrments or his opinions on Vietnam.
There is so much hoopla over Trump and Clinton and Obama serving.. what about this guy?
Does anyone know?

The "2-S" student deferment for college was automatic so long as you were a full time student. I assume that Nadler did have a deferment until he graduated in 1969. The problem was that Tricky Dick Nixon removed the deferment for graduate school in 1969 in order to get even with the college class of 1968 which was protesting the war in Vietnam big time. The class of 1968 were called for their pre-induction physicals in 1969.

I suspect that Nadler was either judged unfit for service (4-F) or received the coveted "1-Y" classification due to some medical condition. If Nadler had served, he would have touted the fact in his political resume.

Lots of young men did not want to go to Vietnam towards the end of the 60s and used all kinds of subterfuge to get out. Rush Limbaugh and Donald Trump got 1-Ys, Bill Clinton persuaded a ROTC colonel to arrange a deferment so he could attend Oxford U. on the promise that he would sign up after his studies (a promise that he reneged on) and Mitt Romney had an exemption as a minister of the gospel in the Mormon Church.
