Congress is looking for instances of tax avoidance or tax evasion, not other criminality. That is the point.
What do we need the IRS for, if that is what congress oversight does?

the only people not doing well are those that won't do well no matter who the President is.

Trump was not employed by government to have any transparency over the matter.
Congress has full access to his 2017 and 2018 returns, while he was a federally elected official. But not before as a Private Citizen.

If by using the term 'pretzel logic, you mean:

"twisted or circular reasoning that when dissected is wrong, does not make sense or does not explain the situation rationally."
I concur.

He said he'd produce them. He ran on a flat-out lie. Now, Congress has questions and they want to see these returns.

Why is it that you are using such twisted logic to exempt him from:

a. Keeping his word
b. Congress from exercising due diligence

But they can't, they have no right to anyone's private business just because they feel someone is a bad orange man. Btw, he could've promised soda in drinking fountains and not delivered and it wouldn't matter; that really means nothing, It's inconsequential. Or promised to keep our doctor and insurance premiums down, it doesn't matter really.

And that is just it. The Trump-hating Democrats have no evidence that Trump is a tax fraud and a cheat. They just want endless witch hunts, and a way to savage Trump, his family, and anyone who associates with him.

The dems want ten years of records, including everything from emails, texts, phone calls, business contracts, letters, documents of every sort. Just so they can harass everyone who has ever done business with Trump, or handled his finances and taxes.

The dems want to make it impossible for Trump to hire anyone to work in his 2020 campaign, much less do his finances, or work for him in his private business, or to even associate with Trump. Because the dems will destroy them with endless legal fees. Then they will attempt to destroy the personal and professional lives of anyone associated with Trump, by making false criminal charges and starting hateful rumors and gossip about them, which the media will repeat 24/7.

The dems want to use weaponize Congress, the same way under Obama, that they used the DOJ against Trump, and the IRS against the TEA party, and the EPA against the coal industry.

Ya'll so concerned about Barr "breaking the law" (gasp), how 'bout the law that Congress has access to Trump's tax returns? Maybe that law should be followed.
