Canada to reject refugees with claims in other countries (BBC)

So....even Canada is closing the door.

Canada intends to change the law to make it harder for asylum seekers rejected by countries like the US to file refugee claims at the border.

An influx of asylum seekers crossing at the US-Canada border has become a hot button political issue.

Wow imagine that. Now we are screwed. I always thought that when America has devolved into what the Democrats want, a third world socialist liberal heck hole with open borders and lawless streets that we the good people could head to Canada but I guess not.

I think America should get smart and stop the asylum seekers from coming. There is no reason why someone coming from Venezuela is allowed to hike through several countries to fall on our doorstep expecting handouts and access. The only ones that should be able to claim asylum in the US are those from Mexico and Canada.

If I'm baking cookies and I run out of sugar I will go next door to my neighbors, I'm not going to hike up the road and walk several streets over to knock on the door of a stranger.

Are you confused between legal immigration and illegal immigration and legitimate asylum seekers vs bogus ones?

And what is with these repeated immigrant caravans of 50,000, 100,000 'refugees?' All with Mexico's blessing.

Neither American party has done any real prevention in this disease. Obama wouldn't. Trump can't.

Congress needs to act to re-vamp our asylum policies or more and more of these caravans will keep coming here.

Some people here are confused about what a Immigrant is.

That is a person who ( in this case ) has applied to be considered for approval to come to Canada, with the specific permission of the Government of Canada. They must meet all of the educational, employment skills , financial stability and medical health requirements BEFORE they can be granted official permission to come here. And they have to write and pass the international testing process to prove their ability to read, write and speak, either English or French, at the minimum level of a high school graduate. The approval process for immigration to Canada takes about 18 months to complete.

Now lets talk about illegal refugees. They have not applied for permission to come to Canada...they simply arrive at our border. In many of the current cases, the person was admitted TO the USA as a visitor. They simply over stayed their visitor visa. NOW that the US Government is acting to eject them.....They are trying to be accepted as refugees by Canada.

Yes Canada has to accept them ( our laws are quite clear about that ) BUT we also have a very clear vetting and identification process in place. The Refugee and Immigration Board conducts investigations of each applicant, and renders a legal decision about the validity of the claim. About 80 percent of the refugee claims are REJECTED. That triggers a deportation order.

A further point... Canada has and does, accept Refugees who meet the United Nations definition of " persons who are in danger, who are fleeing war or famine " . THOSE people we accept, because our Government has Immigration officers on the ground in countries where refugees are in camps who do personal interviews of persons who are awaiting approval to move to safe third countries. The most recent large group of Refugees came from Syria, about 35,000 in total, over a 4 year period of time. The vast majority of those people were families, a husband and wife and their children. No single adult males. Orphan children were also given priority processing.

So, lets be clear, Canada has a long standing Immigration screening process, that selects suitable applicants, based on their ability to contribute to our country and on their formal education ( we want University graduates not manual labourers ) and their language skills . We do not simply throw open our borders. We apply the rules, and due process.

This is how we do it. It works for us.
