Same with managers by the way, many top managers of big companies are psychopaths, there are various studies on that. Maybe ambition is tied to psychopathy.

part of the problem with your thinking about local politicians is that they are very limited in what they can do in the first place. also they are far more accessible to the people than state or federal politicians are. i mean really, are you going to travel to washington dc to see your district representative or your states senator? likely not. however you are going to be willing to driver across town, even if it is someplace like chicago or LA, to see your local councilman.

I think that is not the case. Many politicians do not become politicians because they want to rule over anyone. Some do because they want to serve and help their community because they know they have good values and ideas.
I think there are way fewer sociopaths in politics than in management.

I think you are being very naive. And big difference being that in the private sector "management" cannot use violence as a means to an ends, unlike the politician.

Why do people need politicians in the first place? Can you not make your own choices and spend your own money wisely?

Unless a politicians is a dictator, I don't see how he or she can be violent in a legal way. Managers on the other hand can legally damage society.

I think you are being naive if you think that anarchy (which is what your last sentence implies) would work in societies full of egomaniacs.

I always thought that representatives should be picked from the public like jury duty.

You serve for a couple years and then go back to your previous job/life.

No lifetime positions or benefits.

While we like to complain about professional politicians, the problem with your view is that due to the complexity of laws, regulations etc. it takes years to learn how things work, what's possible and what isn't, who you have to talk to etc. So by the time a politician is finally competent, they would already have to leave again. Then the same happens to their successor. You end up with a string of incompetent politicians, which can only result in trouble.

So give them less power.

Win/win.

Politicians are far more often mirrors of the electorate as opposed to molders of public opinion standing for reason and principle.

I know it is very P.C. to blame the politicians but the masses are too often voting in a-z-z-e-s.
