WASHINGTON—Former Obama White House counsel Greg Craig expects to be indicted in the coming days on charges stemming from work he performed for Ukraine in 2012, Mr. Craig’s legal team said.
Mr. Craig has refused to accept a plea deal, and the matter could be presented to a grand jury for indictment as soon as Thursday, people familiar with the matter say. A spokesman for the Justice Department declined to comment.
The people familiar with the situation say they believe Mr. Craig will be charged with making false statements to the Justice Department unit that oversees the activities of foreign agents, though other charges are possible.
An indictment of Mr. Craig is likely to send shock waves through the U.S. legal community and is the latest fallout from an investigation into former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort and his years of work for the pro-Russia regime in power in Kiev.
The 74-year-old Mr. Craig is a legal heavyweight who served in senior legal roles for two Democratic presidents. He has also been a top State Department adviser and Capitol Hill aide.
Interesting - Souther District of New York decided to not pursue charges (who-da-thunk-it?) so the case was moved to Washington and a D.C. Grand Jury will hear it.
The matters surrounding Mr. Craig have taken a winding path. It was first developed by special counsel Robert Mueller before being transferred to federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York, known as SDNY, and then was transferred again to Washington. The national security division of the Justice Department—which has ramped up its enforcement of foreign lobbying laws—is heavily involved, the people say.
The possible charges stem from the Ukrainian government’s hiring of Mr. Craig and his then-law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in 2012 to evaluate the corruption trial of the former Ukrainian prime minister. Mr. Craig spoke to several reporters about the findings of the firm’s report, touching off a dispute with the Justice Department about whether that qualified as lobbying for a foreign government in the U.S.
The last thing Mueller would want to do is preside over a Democrat doing the same thing that Manafort did ... so he dumped it on SDNY and they punted also ... Obama's buddy and all.
Hopefully they'll tip off CNN so we can see the 5am raid of his home with 26 heavily armed FBI agents in a Riot wagon while they ram down his front door.

Should be fun to watch.
I wouldn't count on it - I guess the NY Times get some marks for at least reporting on this via twitter.
Gregory B. Craig has an interesting history - he was a Clinton insider and then turned against Clinton and supported Obama. Craig was a close confidant of Edward Kennedy - who also turned against Clinton and supported Obama.
He bumped heads with several Obama insiders and he only lasted a year in the O-Team Administration.
He was tasked with closing Git-Mo and failed.
He as always been a major Player in the Leftist Democrat Camp and it looks like even the SDNY couldn't save his bacon.

Exactly ^^^^
It’s not like we have a biased double standard in our justice system.....

Yah, I look for this one to fade away, charges dropped or something like that. He refused to plead, which means if they indict, they're going to have a real mess on their hands. Discovery and all that. I may not care for his politics, but I say, good for him. If he doesn't have a heart attack, or is found dead by suicide with three shots to the back of his head, or a set of barbells crush his chest in the gym.
I saw a photo of this guy, he looks PISSED and loaded for bear.

"Trump is surrounded by amateurs, grifters, weaklings, convicted and unconvicted felons." Chris Christie.
So much for friendship. (Read his book, it's really good. I'm half way through it now.)
Christy is in the know and judging from the many Mueller convictions, I think he's right. I hope all the crooks go to jail regardless of party.
There has been speculation that several Democrats' names in the Mueller Report will be redacted so it will be pretty funny if Congress gets the unredacted version exposing them. Everything the Demwits demand backfires on them, poor saps.
