Well the oil companies did have to add costs to compensate them for the $19Billion tax increase that Congress just levied on them.. Did consumers think we weren't going to pay them?

Tax increase? Where did you get that from. The oil companies have enjoyed billions in tax cuts.

That is what he is talking about;they just took them away to give to others pwoer companies. But then I really look for gas to keep going up with the weakness in the US dollar. But we are lucky compared to most countries ;guy posted in the UK the average is 8.00 in US dollars a gallon.

When you take away a tax cut on domestic oil companies, and keep tax cuts in place for foreign companies.. its a tax increase.

Why aren't the dems in congress doing anything to alleviate the situation? Like cut the federal taxes/per gallon.

I think I know the answer. That would be GOOD for the consumer, and the dems would like to keep everybody in misery til the election is over.

If they cut gas taxes it means LESS for them to spend... LESS entitlements... do you hear people clamoring for less entitlements?

Cutting the federal gas tax would mean that interstates would start to crumble and more people will die in bridge collapses. If anything gas taxes are inordinately low in the US because the cost of motor vehicle transportation is partly subsidized by non-fuel revenues. In a state like Florida, the government spends more money on roads than schools.

You need to look at where that state money originates from. All states and even local governamnt get alot of their road funding directly from federal revenues. That is why they all enforce seatbelt requirements ;so they don't lose these funds.CDBG( communtiy development block grants) even fund many of the roadway works at the local level as well as other projects. But to say that they spend all the taxes collected on fuel on roadways is off the mark;but they certainly need to.
