Even less people know about the other 20th century holocausts, like the Armenian Genocide, the Holodomor, the Kazakh Famine, the Bangladeshi Genocide, the Cambodian Genocide, and the ones perpetrated by Mao and Stalin.
This is a survey from Israeli National News that was likely intended from the get go to show how little American's care about Israel. Also, just for reference, over 73 million people died in WWII, so let's make sure our education and historical recollection isn't being skewed towards a particular group at the expense of others.
I would believe, that if asked an open ended question, "how many jews were killed during the holocaust"? they might have guessed wrong. But if they were informed that historians believe the number to be 6 million, I don't think many would disagree.
How did they have to "identify" Auschwitz? Did they have to come up with better details than it was a Nazi concentration camp?
