I don't think so. I never thought it was fair of high state income tax states to be allowed to pass the burden to the federal government and effectively collect taxes from other states to cover their spending.
When a New Yorker paying taxes to the state and then get it back from the federal government that simply shifts the payment to me in Texas. I don't even get a vote on the New York tax proposals yet I get to pay for them with my federal taxes.
Sure, it hurts those blue states when they cannot grab money from other states to pay their bills, but it is not cruel to right a wrong.
Well, for years I have lived in red states and paid MORE in TAXES so rich folks in California, Illinois, NY, NY, Conn, Mass......paid less due to deductions for state and local taxes
I NEVER made over 80,000 a year in my entire life.....why should I pay so RICH FOLKS get their deductions??
80,000 a year in Arkansas is solid middle class for an individual. In California and NY, it's practically poverty line.
Living in NY State is great, even with the high taxes. Why is that? Because people here aren’t forced to rely on God & Jesus for their basic needs (like healthcare). So people here generally have a good grasp on reality, unlike much of the population in the Bible Belt states. Schools can teach scientific topics like evolution, climatology and sex-ed without interference from religious nut-jobs. Children here are also better prepared for survival in the ruthless modern global high tech economy. I wouldn’t want my children going to school in Alabama, no matter how low the taxes are.
Healthcare was affordable pre Obamacare. Obamacare made it unaffordable.
You cannot really believe that? Or can you
PER CAPITA COSTS - when GW Bush was sworn in - adjusted for inflation (2017 dollars) = $6500 per person per year.
In 2010 before any part of ACA was active = $9300 per person per year (adjusted to 2017)....
So, you are making these claims.....
1. A 50% increase under GW Bush and the year after is "affordable" and costs were in check.
AND
2. That a family of 4 paying (4x9300) $37,000+ per year is affordable.
If you can make such a claim - as I suppose you will do over and over again, any discussion of the point is a waste of time. It may just be that YOU have more "skin in the game" and are paying 1/2 your real costs instead of only 1/3rd of them. But you STILL aren't paying the actual cost.
Note - we are at 10.8K per person per year now (2019 projected), definitely a much slower rise than the 50% in those Bush Years. Continuation of the "years that you say were affordable" would mean almost $14K per person per year by 2020.
If you aren't paying it, others and debt and deficit are.....for you.
