Isn't a little early in the year to start the "war on Christmas" BS? Isn't it enough you guys ruin Christmas during the holiday season with this garbage?
Adjust the twisted undies.
Sorry Charlie, How many innocent priests are getting caught up in the priest scandal? How many people have to complain about Christmas lights in neighborhoods where Catholics are in the minority? Deny, deflect and redirect. I won't buy the BS about the tolerance of the left while they are right up there with the haters.
The left hates any symbols of Christianity and the religion itself.
The left despises Christianity.
Christianity teaches us to do the following,
Give everything you own to the poor (republicans oppose welfare and food stamps.)
To heal the sick (republicans oppose healthcare for all.)
To love everyone (republicans hate Obama, Hillary, liberals, black democrat leaders, transsexuals, ex.ex.)
To love your enemies (republicans hate South Americans and Muslims to the point of building walls and starting travel bans to keep them out.)
To avoid war (republicans want a stronger military and guns for everyone.)
To not kill (republicans want tough military leaders and the death penalty.)
And Christianity taught us the Camel parable (Trumps tax cuts raised low income workers income by 0.8% and raised the richest 0.1% of Americans income by 14.2%.) https://www.forbes.com/sites/janetno.../#7ed1ec5565b9
Republicans hate the philosophies of Christianity, but democrats embrace almost all of them.
I remember when the Taliban took the reins in Afghanistan they went on a purge of everything non Islam. There were these two huge cliff carvings of Buddha that were mega iconic and ancient and they blew them up. It's quite criminal how much history has been destroyed over time just because it clashed with some religion or another and how it's been justified.
History is history regardless ya know. Napoleon did irreparable damage to Egypts ancient structures. His troops pelted the Sphynx with cannon fire. There has been a lot of history lost forever over time. Now Notre Dame has burned. Pretty sad.
Here I the US historical statues have been pulled down and destroyed by mobs of idealalists in some sort of attempt at making a statement and whenever history is destroyed thus there's always some justification or another. (sigh) methinks it will never end. People seem to spend so much time destroying history because they find something shameful in it that they fail to learn from it.
I can't help but think about how the people of all faiths including Christians turned out to mourn the victims of the mass shooting at the mosques in New Zealand and I wonder if people of all faiths including Muslims will turn out to mourn the loss of Notre Dame?
Yesterday I saw a photo of 2 guys that looked to be from the Middle East smiling and laughing as they walked away from the burning church. Who knows if it was even a real photo. Who knows what they might have been laughing at but the intent of the photo was to stir up fear and hatred of Muslims.
The extreme Left, the extreme Right. Why do they increase the problems we already have?

As for the Left, I am tired of their nonsense, and they don't know anything about beauty, indeed it was largely the left that was responsible for grand housing projects that saw the rise brutalist architecture and concrete estates, when all people really wanted were decent homes, and there is a reason why those concrete tower blocks are usually referred to as Commie Blocks.
I don't think the left can take any moral high ground when it comes to architecture, and Paris like many large cities has enough modern architectural such as the pompidou centre and tour-Montparnasse, which were built on the orders of left wing modernist architects.

…
France's relationship to Roman Catholicism is complicated. The French state is determinedly secular - since the French Revolution, when the cathedral of Notre Dame was used as a school, I think it was. Notre Dame is a historic building, lots of French & even world history has passed through there.
& it's a beautiful building, & France has vowed to rebuild it. Surely that's enough.

I hear that they have a billion dollars now. With any luck, that will be enough to build a metal roof with steel beams, stained glass, and the dozen other things that I don't know about.

It's pretty much France's equivalent of Westminster Abbey in London, athough St Paul's in London is also much loved and featured in Canaletto paintings and served as a symbol of hope during the bombing of London in WW2.
Whilst Britain is not a Catholic Country, we did eventually allow a Catholic Cathedral to be built in the heart of London, the Catholic Cathedral is known as Westminster Cathedral.

There's more than a few holes in this. One gaping one is attributing religious philosophy to political party affiliation. I see where you're coming from to a point in terms of Republican support of capaitalism and Dem support of spread the wealth socialism but the latter hardly equates to New Testament ideals.
It's a bit more complicated than that. There's a lot of individual character traits involved in application of Christ's teachings that have nothing to do with party affiliation. Unfortunately the tenets of Christianity have hardly remained pure to Jesus' intent.
