Presidential 2020 candidate Eric Swalwell was on CNN on Sunday, April 14, 2019. He announced that he would want to put in place laws to make vaguely-defined "assault weapons" illegal across the country, and that everyone would have to give up their guns.
The CNN announcer asked, "What's the punishment for people who don't hand in their guns? Do they go to jail?"
Swalwell replied, "Well, Jake, they would."
He later suggested that people could turn them over to a hunting club or shooting range, which would keep them for them. In all cases, people's guns would be taken away.
He also said that the greatest danger to the 2nd amendment, is if Democrats DON'T enact nationwide gun control and confiscation.
The Democratic field is full to the brim with hate-filled nutcases who are proposing things that would be considered insane even 20 years ago, ranging from openly advocating socialism to confiscating peoples guns to giving out govt-paid health care, college education etc.
Bans on these types of guns have already been tried, a number of times. The rate of gun deaths, assaults etc. never went down when they were tried.
The only proactive government "gun control" agenda that has ever worked, is a total nationwide ban and forced confiscation. And even that only works when govt conducts repeated periodic sweeps. Checking every house for illegal guns again and again, indefinitely into the future, whether the residents like it or not. In other words, an all-watchful, all-powerful police state.
Democrats up to and including Barack Obama, have praised various nations whose rates of gun deaths have gone down - Japan, Australia, England etc. And they have even expressed a desire to emulate them. Well, guess what: Those are the countries who have almost totally banned guns and even confiscated them. (Mandatory so-called "gun buybacks" are merely forced confiscation where taxpayers are also forced to subsidize you).
Keep in mind that when leftists do-gooders say they want only a few more "reasonable restrictions" on guns, it's because the restrictions they imposed last year didn't work. Crime and mass shootings continue merrily along. And so now they want to impose a few more regulations and restrictions. And when those don't work, next year a few more. The only scheme that does work, is complete confiscation of all of the people's guns, followed by regular house-to-house searches. And that's exactly what they are gradually working their way up to, one small piece at a time.
I support gun ownership rights, but these stories seem odd. I have had exactly zero home invasions in my entire life and do not live in fear of them. Have some bear spray that would stop a grizzly bear and not ruin my new carpet. Trying not to be a conspiracy inside job type, but…, why was that house targeted and not the one next door?

My neighbor just died. He had a large amount of cash from a cash only bakery.
