I take it you've never been hiking. While that is disgusting yes, it happens. One time I had to while I was hiking. Believe me, I didn't want to but there was no latrine anywhere close by (I know this because it's a trail I've hiked before) so I did what I had to do but I used leaves & buried it as best I could & I did it off the trail.
Chesa Boudin, the urine-and-feces-plagued city’s incoming district attorney, pledged during the campaign not to prosecute public urination and other quality-of-life crimes if he was elected. Boudin declared victory Saturday night after results showed him winning a plurality of votes in the DA race.
“We will not prosecute cases involving quality-of-life crimes. Crimes such as public camping, offering or soliciting sex, public urination, blocking a sidewalk, etc., should not and will not be prosecuted,” Boudin vowed in response to an American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) questionnaire during the campaign.
“Many of these crimes are still being prosecuted, we have a long way to go to decriminalize poverty and homelessness,” he lamented.

Boudin “was raised in Chicago by Weather Underground leaders Bill Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn” after his parents were sent to prison on murder charges while he was a toddler, NBC News noted.
I just don't understand who votes for this stuff. Maybe part of God's judgment that people lose common sense... why do people in a first world country chose to allow #1 and #2 to happen anywhere without consequence?
Why can't the city spend some of it's great wealth with high taxes and high revenues on a couple hundred public restrooms that clean themselves after each use.
It seems like many liberal, Democratic cities can't even take care of basic sanitation and yet they talk about all these fantastic programs that are far more expensive and complicated that they are going to implement.

I agree with that. Prosecuting public urination is basically making it illegal to be homeless or poor.
People of any means do not need to urinate in public.
So you are going to take a poor homeless person with already low life prospects, and give them a criminal record. Exactly how does that help them?

Don't you know how things work in real life?
Everyone knows the deal with homeless people. How many homeless people have been arrested for public urination? Probably not much. Why? Because police already know it's useless in those cases.
But now you just open it up for everyone to use the bathroom in public - even if they aren't homeless.
Is this going to increase or decrease the overall quality of life in San Francisco?
You can cater to the homeless all you want. However, they don't pay taxes. Residents pay taxes... tourists pay taxes. If San Fran keeps up this nonsense - they won't have either.
You need to think dynamically about these things, and not statically.
