This "Red state blue state" is one of the largest problems this country faces and I really have little faith we will ever stop it. As I've noted many times, for far, far, far too many politics is all that matters. Politics and then a hatred for others that one see's as different than themselves.

I have posted a similar inquiry about San Francisco, many times.

What reasonable action should a municipality take to address homelessness, that they are not doing?

Further, both these cities-and now the 9th circuit have mandated that bums can take over public spaces and set up encampments wherever they choose.

Our nation has lost it's mind.

It's absolutely incredible, like some kind of mass insanity!

Beginning in the 50’s, some states began to close asylums because they were political embarrassments and tax payers had no desire to fund them. This practice caught on in other states over the ensuing decades as Federal funding dried up and the political embarrassments became obvious.

Best case, medications MAY reduce symptoms. No one can be forced to take medication.

There are already billions going to the homeless industrial complex every year. There are many leftists within those organizations raking in six figure or higher incomes. Leftists are getting rich while the homeless die in the streets and communities are ruined.

We need to divert the funding from those monsters to prisons. If more money is needed, then yes, I would gladly pay for it. HOWEVER it can’t just go into a leftist black hole of administrators and waste. There needs to be real transparency about how this money is spent. Prison guards don’t need to retire at 45 with a six figure pension.

I know you despise prison, which is fueled by your leftist belief that people are not responsible for their actions and economic situation. People like you will eventually ruin this country, and I don’t think for one second that it can be stopped at this point. Is what it is....
Where can a correctional officer retire at age 45 with a six figure pension?

Municipalities, counties and states can begin locking these people up in asylums, where many of them belong as they are not mentally well enough to live alone. Their existence on the street is a danger to themselves and others and we should be ashamed of ourselves for not investing in mental health care in this country. Of course, this issue persists, because the psychiatric community holds to an orthodoxy that committing people is generally immoral, despite what the evidence shows.

We have places where the mentally ill go.

The mentally ill still have the same Constitutional protections as the rest of the people and you can't forcibly hold someone that is not a risk to others simply because they decide to live in a tent.

Oklahoma City experienced a 47% increase in unsheltered homeless between 2017-18.

In part, it is attributed to a shift in focus from shelter to mental health and addiction treatment. The homeless must commit to sobriety as a condition of shelter. Obviously, not all are ready to do so. Then there’s the mental health aspect whereby the disability qualifies for Section 8 or other housing assistance and out patient treatment.

Treatment does not cure addiction or mental illness.
