Instead they crucify gays, stone women, behead adulterers, and torture Christians.
I can see why the American left has so much in common with Islam, thus their mutual admiration.
You don't have to be a leftist to see how much more aggressive and imperialist America has been compared to Iran. Sorry if it doesn't suit your narrative but its the truth.
True. From the Iranian perspective, we are terrorists. We propped up and installed governments to steal their oil and torture their dissidents. We tore out their souls...as well as their fingernails.
"the notorious Ebrat political prison, once the site of torture and interrogation 40 years ago under Iran's last shah, now a museum for the crimes of the United States-backed monarchy."
Not to mention the fact that when Iran did try and install a democratic system. The American and British governments furious at the notion that Iran might nationalize its oil industry. Organized and orchestrated a coup d'etat and installed a puppet dictator in its place. Iran has very legitimate reasons to loathe America.
No, we have lost ourselves. Iran doesn't invade and occupy other nations, it doesn't napalm villages, it doesn't set up military bases in every corner of the planet.
America is far crazier as a nation then Iran is. Sad to say but its the truth.

When Mossadeq was deposed by the CIA in 1953, our puppet was Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, also known as the Shah of Iran, and his brutal dictatorship is what led to the rise of radical Islam and "blowback" to American imperialism in 1979.
Fast forward 40 years, and nothing has changed, other than the United States has become more of a belligerent, especially under Republican Presidents (Reagan, Bush I and II, and now Trump)

That part isn't entirely correct. In 1941, the British and Soviets forced Reza Pahlavi to abdicate in favor of his son. Since he was deemed weak, the prime minister at the time tried to deposit him. When the Shah fled, the British asked Americans for help in restoring him so that Mossadegh wouldn't nationalise the oil industry.
It certainly didn't play out the way you wrote it.
Plus, Iranians don't loathe America. Au contraire, many are quite fond of it. I'm talking about the people here.
During the 1979 revolution, there was a desire to topple the monarchy and bring forth a republic. Few at the time were looking towards a theocracy and the Ayatollah promised that religion wouldn't factor into it. However, once he took over he betrayed the spirit of the revolution and set up an Islamic republic.
Among the Persian diaspora, many view the Pahlavi dynasty rather favorably.
I'm sure there's other countries, especially in the Middle East, like Saudi Arabia and Israel, who would love to see the US wipe Iran off the map!
Those are both bad examples of "good guys" mi amigo. The US should not be doing anything either of them want.
