I think we should gradually ween these nations off of foreign aid. I wouldn't just cut it all, but we need to have a plan to reduce our foreign aid and spend it here on infrastructure, and other improvements. We've been subsidizing developed, and advanced nations in Europe and Asia with Defense and other types of aids. That has to be reduced. We are no long fighting WWII or the Cold War.
Well we cut off the needy of the world and as in other threads stop all food stamp welfare etc. Unless very ill old or vet - go to work- gotcha - do you suppose we will reduce our debt to China? Or build more bridges and roads ? ha! What nobody is getting is we have money to spare- we really do but we are terrible at handling money. As in Corp welfare - bridges to nowhere - stupid studies many, many things most don’t know about. Be more wall money - but we have the same people in DC - and nothing would change. Economist do not pass our national budgets.

Would a private road building company build a road to nowhere? No.
There is no money to spare, america is beyond broke and its not coming back no matter what any candidate promises you. Stop relying on them/it.
What about Iraq, for starters? They are #1 on the list, with more than $5 billion in aid.
We give money to Iraq not to 'help' Iraq but to try and stabilize the error to stem the growth of terrorism whose primary target is radicalization of others to reign terror around the world -- especially in the USA.
Foreign aid to other countries is rarely an act of pure selfless generousity by the USA.
There is usually a motivating factor of protecting American interests.
In some areas stabilization of the country is important to stem the growth of terrorism.
And in some areas supporting governments financially is for the benefits that individual politicians get around election time with large donations from American and foreign political groups with deep pockets who reward those politicians who support their political causes -- financially and philosophically.
Historically supporting oil rich countries was indeed a motivating factor in financial support to a country.
Americans are naive to think that there isn't more to giving money to another country than just Americans being generous.
(this goes with the military aid as well --- we have bases around the world not to protect the world -- but to protect our interests as well. )

They'll build anything as long as you pay them.
