In a bizarre ruling, the highest court in international sports decided Wednesday that will force female track athletes with elevated levels of testosterone to take suppressants to compete in certain women’s races at major international events like the Olympics. They decided that is a woman had a T level above a certain amount, she has an unfair advantage over other female athletes in other competition. Such a woman, in this case, Caster Semenya, would be considered "intersex" in sports terms and would either have to take hormone suppressing drugs to lower her T, compete in intersex competitions if available, or not compete at all. How ironic. The sports world now insists that an elite athlete take artificial substances in order for her to conform to their rigid definition of biological sex. How much "leveling of the playing field" should judging panels do to make competitions fair?

It's not bizarre when you put it into context.

They are simply getting ahead of the transgender lawsuits.

I don't think men and women should be separated in competitive sports especially given the number of potential genders there are as well as genders transient nature.

There's nothing bizarre about it. Nor is there any doubt that "women" with very high testosterone have an unfair advantage in women's sports.

Caster Semenya is biologically intersex. Why wouldn't she be considered such by the sports world?

They need to do this at minimum if they want to keep women's sports from becoming a complete joke.

Female athletes are only allowed certain levels of testosterone, and this was the case before the ruling.

Allowing elevated testosterone levels could lead to women taking testorone suppliments in order to compete and is not a road female sports really want to take.

You just have to look at some of the Eastern bloc European womens athletes, and the damage done to their health and lives.
