We didn't do that. We allowed them to flee to Pakistan.

Oh, lots of winning. Free 100's of billions of our debt and deficit being given out to Contractors...mostly US corporations, but plenty of others too.

A regular party. Win.....

It was Obama, years later, that created the mess we have now when he foolishly decide to nation build Afghanistan like the Soviets did 20 years earlier. It was a Democrat War of Choice that got 1000s killed for nothing.

I hope that clears it up for you.
Should have never been started. That and Iraq are/were two of the biggest and most expensive mistakes in US History.

Should have been mostly Covert and then hardening of our own security and more investment in our own intelligence system.

And, of course, we're not done. Not nearly. This could easily end up a 20 Trillion dollar bill with interest and all the "fuses" that were lit as a result.

I was against going in from Day One - to Afghanistan and to Iraq...in fact, I often felt lonely because even most of my "normal" friends and contacts were hot to trot.

18 years and we are at a stalemate? What exactly is the point? Afghanistan has now kicked the ass of the Soviet Union and the United States. You can not defeat a people with nothing to lose.
That's where empires go to die.

We have not won any wars, but the rich have fared well from them. Our history books tell us differently for patriotic reasons.

America in reality is an evil, God-less country and has been for a long, long time. How else can one maintain global power? Not by being a good actor. We want control of that drug trade, and we have it. We do not care about the afghans or the taliban or even 9/11. We also don't care about our own soldiers which is something even the Soviets didn't do.

The terrorists had no idea how mean we are, so they've been schooled and are quiet. They cut off heads, we let you live and die slowly with addictions and afflictions with the state laughing and surveilling all the way to your grave.

Afghanistan is known as the graveyard of empires. The British, Soviets and Americans have all tried to control that territory and failed in the process. I guess Alexander the Great was the exception

It's an absolute insult and slap to the face of every American that the United States still has a military presence in Afghanistan and is wasting our taxpayer dollars and American lives for absolutely nothing.

It's interesting those who continue to blindly support this monumental waste of tax payer money, are absolutely quiet when it comes to reports of how billions and billions of tax payer dollars simply vanished. Into thin f**king air. Money that could have been used to help fellow Americans.

The architect of 9/11, an individual who if alive could have maybe, just a wee bit maybe, justified minor presence and funding in Afghanistan, was killed. Eight f**king years ago. All of those involved in some way with 9/11, have loooong since been killed or faced some measure of punishment. Enough is enough.

President Trump, please bring them all back home.

It is not that we don't have the capability to win....we most certainly do. Problem is there are so many limitations and restrictions on our military that winning, as a goal, is not realistic. If that is the reality of the situation, and I believe it is, we are wasting time, money and lives!

Many who haven't been there have been noting this for a long time.....but not necessarily because they know what they are talking about. Seeing things 1st hand tends to give one a different perspective than someone who read about it in a magazine or news article.

Define "winning".

As long as the political system of Islam exists-the same brutality, butchery and savagery exists. I don't think there is any way of destroying the appeal of Islam to certain people. Heck, after 70 years, the Nazis still have some appeal to a particular group of people-Islam is no different. The best we can hope for is that in another few hundred years of civilization that this sick political system and mentality will finally die out.
