That is because it will be much more than that ratio. It doesn't matter who, or where the single payer system is at, it all revolves around those that are successful pay for those that aren't.
I couldn't find anything on the new Bern plan so went off of the one he proposed the first time he ran.
It is a 6.2% payroll tax that gets charged to the employers. So, do you really think they are going to absorb that ? Hell no, everyone will be getting a 6.2% reduction in pay.
For the wife and I , that roughly a $10k paycut.
Now his plan proposed a 2.2% income based premium.
For the wife and I, that adds an additional $3800 to our taxes. That alone isn't all that bad. Couple that with the $10k paycut and it starts to add up. $13800 for "free" healthcare. Her and I currently pay out of pocket for ours, $8k with a $6k (it might be $7500) deductible.
And we are at the low end of the middle class. What is it going to be like for those that are in the middle / middle or upper. Or in that next tier up ?
There really aren't any great solutions that are fair for everyone. Of all the current systems in place around the world, the Canadian one seems to be the most fair I guess.
