Ranking improves when people work.
Ranking deteriorates when people stop working.

Easy fix: Put more people to work or get rid of people that don't want to.

Of course Europe is doing best. They have the most transparency in press. I’m disappointed that Canada is in 18th place. Should be in the top 10.

Should as in I wish they were, or as in I assumed they would be?

They have had a lousy rating for years or decades even. I think they don't care because they never claimed to have freedom of the press in the first place - unlike the West.
