99.9% of the time. People are suckers. It's always "I need gas, I am pregnant with my 5th kid, I need a bus ticket, just need some change...
My most recent experience was at the gas station. Guy claiming he was out of gas... I said "ok, let's go to the pump." He said "cash was easier" and left. And that's not the first time that happened.
That is why this thread puzzles me.
Maybe this belongs in Psychology because intellectually we all know the vast majority of parking lot beggars are not homeless or desperate, they just want easy money. I've had them come up to me and shed actual tears, with incredible acting, telling elaborate tales with a ready answer for everything. They got some real theatre talent, they should all go to Hollywood.
What illegal aliens? The ones Rachel says she MIGHT have seen at Walmart? She doesn't even know these people at the corner were illegal, if they were there at all. And I'm not the one constantly posting threads about evil illegal aliens because I am not the one obsessed with them. I do get annoyed at smug posters with superiority complexes.

where i live we have public housing and women with children are at the TOP of the list...this is high rise living with maybe a 1000 units available for a city with 50,000..the waiting list is perhaps only 2-3 months give-or-take...
during that time we also have shelters and of course living with a friend or relative....
i have worked in drug addiction professionally in my past..not saying it is a factor however i have been made aware of what we call "dual diagnosis" people with simultaneous issues..(mental health/drug abuse)
there appears to be from my perspective a cycle where we have homelessness the a relapse of untreated issues more homelessness ad infinitum after awhile people burn their family bridges...she could be in a "shelter" awaiting a more permanent solution and still be technically homeless
Prompted me to think about that old thread with a YouTube link on the OP to a video where the mother is saying 'someone needs to pay for my kids' and she has, IIRC, 15 kids with no husband/boyfriend/father present.
Who says she isn't? Lots of bums make very good money begging-and then walk from their corner, get in their car and drive home. Besides, cash handouts can be used for drugs or booze, not just food and housing.
